Blue Planet Temp

I'm off to do the Shark Day on Sunday at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port.

However, does anyone know what the water temp is in their tank? It says you can wear Full Wetsuit, Semi Dry or Drysuit on the confirmation.

I just want to make sure if I wear my Neoprene Drysuit with just some shreddies underneath I won't boil in the bag

Any help gratefully recieved etc..!

Mark.

Blue Planet Sharks

Been in with the Sharks twice, the first time with a 5mm wetsuit, it was ok but you walk on the bottom of the tank and don't fin so you get quite cool towards the end of the dive. The second time I used my membrane with just a t shirt underneath. It was on this dive one of the other divers spent the whole dive trying to find sharks teeth in the white gravel at the bottom of the tank and taking no notice of all the various fish life swimming by.
have a good one.

I did mine in my drysuit with a Xerotherm Arctic on underneath and wasn't too hot. There were other guys there in wetsuits and they were definately wishing they'd brought drysuits by the end.

Thankyou very much . I think drysuit and xerotherm's the order of the day then.

As for sharks teeth - Digger and I did that but in the fossil beds off selsey - and found shed loads of Sand Tiger sharks teeth! The difference being that these teeth we found are jet black and about 35 Million years old from when the area off the south coast was under a tropical ocean rather than a few weeks old!

Did it in a 3mm wetsuit and was OK - bit novel getting wet when diving

Just one thing to think about - you have to be so negative that achieving it in a dry suit may be hard. Thye pile the weight on you... I ended up with 14 kilos on in a wet suit - in a pool with the same kit I would wear no weight at all so do the maths as part of your deliberations.

Have fun

I think I had about 12kg, plus my backplate.

I wore a 5mm wetsuit when I went last October and I was plenty warm enough. However, the water temp varies quite a bit during the year, I suspect it will be a bit cooler at this time of year.

I ended up with 25kg of weights - it was bloody hard work and gave me a hell of a backache the next day.

Ta for all your advice.

Well I've just got back from a very interesting, informative, rewarding and brilliant day.

I did it in my drysuit, and wore 20Kg of lead and it worked out great

A trip report and photos to follow (I did the Shark Speciality day versus just the dive).

I've uploaded the photos and will do a trip report in the morning as I'm knackered!
