Anyone been to Koh Samui?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent dive operator  -or warn against a crap one!.

I'm going there with my family for hols and will be diving with my 14yr daughter - a newly qualified BSAC Ocean Diver. Sites there are listed as okay for novice & experienced, but I want to be sure of decent kit / back-up.

Cheers,  John

<font color='#0000FF'>Try Dave Covey he's in Koh Samui, Thailand.

I only know this chap by his postings (always sounds friendly and helpful) &nbsp;I believe he's well regarded, I think Paul Oliver might know him personally, but don't quote me on that.

Speak to Dave 'The Cove' Covey. He's an ex-forces guy living and working in the diving industry out there - and specialising in hyperbaric chamber treatment, so not exacly shabby. He's an oppo of Paul Oliver off these boards (in fact, didn't you once enjoy a 'Section 69' together Paul?? ;-). In fact, if memory serves, Dave might actually reside in KS - result!

You can contact him at the following:

I've not dived in Thailand, although I did take Fiona to Pattiya for a week after we'd 'done' Bang Kok and Singapore. Can't say I was overly impressed by Pattiya - especially the cohorts of flabby middle-aged white European guys pleasuring themselves with the local children and 'lady-boys'. Grubby gaff as well. I do hope KS is a better option. Good luck.

<font color='#0000FF'>John,

I did a load of PADI training with Planet Scuba who are based on Samui (I actually stayed and dived on Koh Tao with them). They are excellent. Take a look here - Samui International Diving School (SIDS) and I can highly recommend them. Most of the diving from Samui will be up at Koh Tao or at the marine park. Koh Tao has some really nice diving which would be suitable for your daughter. Whale shark country - if you are lucky!

HTH - if you want more info just ask...

Mark.

PS. I just checked and you can get a 10 dive pack for £78 with two nights free accommodation. That's VERY cheap!!

Thanks guys,

I've just had a reply from Dave Covey an I'll take a look at SIDS. &nbsp; It's great to have some recommendations. &nbsp;I found out last year that the bigest operator / slickest web site doesn't mean best service.

My daughter has already decided on several dives that she wants to do there &nbsp;- Sail rock day and overnight, Koh Tao etc

All I need to do now is persuade her mum that we'll be &quot;missing&quot; for most of the hols.

Cheers, &nbsp;John
