Has anyone else got an email newsletter from this company this morning? I am not sure I signed up to it and can't find how to unsubscribe (the link at the bottom of the page takes you to a log in/register page).

What is odd is that I got it to my gmail account which I usually use online and my work account which I rarely use for diving related things.

Any ideas?

Interesting that you mention this - I had the same mail and I haven't subscribed to them. The email they have come through on is the same mail address I use for YDers and a couple of other things.

I give out specific email addresses so I can deal with spam - i.e Amazon.co.uk might be amazon@X, so if I was to then receive "buy cheap viagra here" type mail being sent to the amazon email address then I know who it was that passed on my mail address (Amazon *don't* sell your address to spammers BTW).

I have never received any spam on this address despite using it for 2 years, until this one yesterday. Very strange.

Often by clicking a link on a spam email your confirming to the spammer that they have a live email account. It's better not to even try to unsubscribe from many of these things, unless you know it's for a legit source you signed up to in the first place.

Any email I receive from an addressee not in my contact list is automatically quarantine away from my other emails. I can then scan them and see if any look genuine otherwise I dump the lot. I use Hotmails facility for this which is largely automatic. You can setup rules in Outlook to do the same thing.

Yep, got it too.

A bit more targeted that the usuall stock tips etc, so I wonder where they got the address.

Didn't Jay mention on another post that "we" has some issues with somebody spoofing the YD e-mail over the weekend?

I wonder if they managed to harvest some e-mail addys as well?

I got it too. I can't check which address it was sent to as I have already emptied my mail box.

TBH, it doesn't worry me too much as I just add it to my "is spam" list and forget about it.

I know there are myriad email front-ends out there, but for those using Outlook in Windows XP, here's how to prevent these from appearing in your Inbox in future:

When in Outlook, go to:

Actions > Junk Email > Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.

Never entered a competition (Divernet or otherwise) using this email address. YDers seems to be the common factor here.... This being related to the spoofing over the weekend seems increasingly likely....
