Gt. Yarmouth

Any decent diving to be had out of Yarmouth (or nearby)?
Sea or fresh, might be getting a posting to that local soon, so best to know what's available, just in case. I will have my car so transportation wont be an issue. Day or night dives?

Yep, the diving is pretty good out of there. Not too different to Dover really; viz very weather dependent and mostly wreck. There is not a huge amount of diving goes on out of any of Norfolk so a lot of the wrecks are still untouched. The eastern coast of Norfolk is deeper than the North coast so you are looking at 50 m before you are too far offshore - on the North coast you can happily be in 25 m of water on a practically undived wreck!!

Diver charters are a bit thin on the ground but Yarmouth, Gorleston and Lowestoft all have dive shops. There is a skipper up in Wells-next the Sea who is a commercial diver but he is very expensive (£65 pppd). There are a few clubs around though

If you do a search for Norfolk diving you should find a couple of threads asking similar questions. There are a couple of hard boats that go out. I tried to get in touch with one of them and gave up cos I couldn't get any answer. There is an article about Norfolk diving on Divernet which has the contact details.

If you get anything sorted let us know and we could get an east anglia meet together

Norfolk Diving by a Norfolk Diver...........

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Monday 31st October 7pm

Dear Diary
R called "You still on for tommorow? Meet at hut 11.30"

Me "Yep, will run into Norwich early, get a fill & see you there"

Tuesday 1st October 9am

Me : Hi R, are we definately on for today, before I do my 50 mile trip for a fill?

Roly (surprised) "Yes, I've been down to the beach, it's not bad, we'll see you later"

Tuesday 1st October 10.30am Me : "Hi R, I am just leaving Norwich, running late & I will see you at the car park instead"

R "No problem"

Tuesday 1st October 11.55am arrive at car park.
Three men in undersuits gazing forlornly at the flat sea. "Can you see the XX bouy?" "Just about". "Is this wind going to hold do you think?" "Don't know" Me : "Shall we ring the coastguard for a report for this afternoon" Them : No, he will say don't go. Lets give it another half an hour".
12.25 still in car park. "Right then, lets get this boat back to the hut"

Tuesday 13.30 at home
Hubs "Not again"
Me "yep"
Hubs "Thats three out of five".
Me "yep"
Hubs "I can see why you drive such long distances to go diving now"
Me "yep"

Four and a half hours wasted, 70 miles (in total)driven. No dive. I live seven miles from the sea.

Give me a ring when you are on the boat and I will come and join you!

I think they recommended James Hunt who used to run Storm/Mayflower. He seems to have given up which is a shame!

Definitely. My parents live in North Norfolk, so if you get anything Lou and I would certainly be interested if you need to make up numbers!

Some great diving to be had off the North Norfolk, East Norfolk and suffolk coast, need to be prepared to go a way out for the vis tho.

Not many operators left.

We run our 180HP inboard diesel RIB out from just south of Lowerstoff. We're diving some undived wrecks which we're inprocess of identifying. Researching one as we speak.

We're pretty well set up with own portable compressors etc

Unfortunatly we too are a club.....

Company are looking for 6/10 month secondment. I would expect to go home (Herts) at least every 2 weekends (both days) and the others at least one day, so in effect I'd be looking to dive alternate weekends one day only.
