Dry suits

I got a small(abt.5-10mil) tear in my suit on Sunday. What's the bestest way to do a home repair. It's tri-lam and not at the stitching. Will a bike punture repair kit do it or will that cement burn a hole in my suit.

<font color='#000080'>It depends on the material of the outer layer. But you get 2 kinds of repair kits for inflatable boats one fpr PVC and on for pubber based materials they work quite well.

I would get a quote for getting it done at a dive shop. In my limited experience the cost of the repair kits is such that getting it done &quot;professionally&quot; is not that prohibitive. Plus if it comes unstuck you can take it back.

I am sure you would get all the advice you need from the suit manufacturers direct if you still go the DIY route.

clean the area and patch with solvent, then two coats of bostic 2402 on the suit and one on the patch, allow to dry between coats and before sticking on patch, then stick on your patch and roll it down, best patch for a tear is more of the same material, by the time you buy all the stuff needed to do a good repair, its cheaper getting you LDS to fix it, that is of course you intend to make a habit of ripping it.

                   It's not really a rip/tear as such. It's more the top two layers have been cut through leaving the bottom layer. Water is still getting in, though it's just enough(for the moment) to be uncomfortable. It really is tiny,about this size
(----), so I'll go for the bostic and a couple of bike puncture patches.

I'll have it looking like Howards suit in under a year!!!!

Can you still get 2402? I got damn near identical Dunlop stuff from DW but I haven't seen genuine 2402 in a shop for years. You invariably see useless aquasure and its ghastly cousins though.

Anyway, don't forget to rub down &amp; clean the patch &amp; repair site before gluing and patch on the inside for a neater job and forget about winning Kirky's 'Joe Duffy Award for the Biggest Hole in a Drysuit This Year'. I didn't win it after cutting off a boot at Fife Ness!

PS You can get away with a superglue &amp; suit tape patch for about one dive in a trilam suit. Gets you back in the water quickly.

I use permabond which is designed to bond plastics and rubbers, fantastic stuff as its flexible and thick enough to not require a patch unless its a big hole. &nbsp;I just put a big layer of it on the inside

Hi Dan,
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;That sounds just the ticket. It's a toty wee hole that isn't even right through my suit.
&nbsp;Where do I get it from? (Dive Shop, B+Q, etc)

I got 2402 from a place in Ireland (Western Marine) , courtesy of a heads up from Darthmoll , since then used it to replace my neckseal and repair a couple seam leaks, that way you get the repair done overnight and don't have to waste time farting around with LDS's
