Had a wierd experience diving the Mixons off Selsey on Sunday. Its supposed to be a Roman aqueduct or something but is basically a vertical wall starting at 6m and continuing to a slope at 22m and has an overhanging lip.
We were doing it as a drift dive just before low water slack and there was a fair tide running when we dropped in. We had just gone over the lip and were descending when I felt a surge behind me. I turned to look and saw a wall of silt that enveloped me. The next few seconds were crazy - I was spun around several times, inverted, pulled downwards and then swept upwards. I dumped air frantically and arrested my ascent, got myself horizontal again only to see another silt ball approaching at high speed. I got blitzed by that one too, insant zero vis and more fun and games, got out by finning hard downwards. I then descended hurriedly to where my buddy, who had seen it all, was staring at me open mouthed. We both started cackling wildly.
Anyone experienced anything similar?
