problem is they are dredging poole harbour and dumping the silt in poole bay, hence vis in the area is precisely zero.

There are disturbing stories going around that this work will continue right through the summer

vizrep quarry close (120m alt) 93000000 miles (the sun's out)

by all accounts they have finished recharging swanage beach (till an easterly takes the sand away) but as to the continued dredging, dave laut (skipper of sidewinder) may have a difinative answer on that if he puts his harbourmasters hat on!
there has always been an ongoing dredging operation to keep the swash channel clear down to 8m, they are, afaik, increasing this to 10m in order to accomodate larger ships. This has (apparently!) exposed a previously unknown wreck somewhere in the fairway and at least one and possibly more spanish gold coin has been found by metal detectors in the sand pumped up on the beach here!
I dont believe the dredging operation will affect the vis anymore than it has in the past!
(fingers crossed)
mike.

Dredging of Poole Harbour

Hi Everone
Some of you may know me i am Dave the skipper of Sidewinder running out of Swanage. What you may not know is that i am also the Safety Manager for Poole Harbour Commissioners and i am fully aware of the Dredging operations i.e. my company are doing the dredging.
To the best of my knowledge the dredging will be complete by the end of March 2006. The reason i say this is that the beach replenishment programme has to be complete by then, as the local councils have to carryout various processes which must be completed before people are allowed on the beaches.
I would like to assure all of you that i am keeping a close eye on the situation as it also affects me personally.
It is my intention in the light of previous comments to keep you all informed as to the dredging process. If i hear of any delays i will let you know as soon as i am aware of it.
Poole Harbour Commissioners have their own website which is www.phc.co.uk
If you want to contact me directly my work e-mail is safety@phc.co.uk please get in touch if you want to.
I hope the above helps
Regards
Dave
