Mine is orange and yellow, I heard yellow was easier to spot from the air...

Techie divers!!! I am unusual because I have a pony out here.....the colour of a blob won't mean anything to anybody.....I could fire a red flare and everyone would stop and look at it then carry on with their lives!
When making rules like 'yellow for trouble' you have to remember that not everyone knows the rules and some of those that do don't care. IMHO all that has to be established is the rules on the day of the dive so no misunderstanding or 'my club doesn't do that' happens.
If I was told on a boat that a yellow blob means trouble then I would have to borrrow a red one for the dive.

ps....20 years ago when I bought the dsmb they didn't come in red.

<font color='#8D38C9'>I'd agree with the orange for SMB, yellow for distress. Although I don't own a yellow dsmb, I am intending to get one soon.
With reagrd to being able to see the yellow one better, I'm really unsure about this. From Dive Marshalling experience, the first DSMB's I spot are the orange ones and it usually takes a little longer to pick out the yellow ones, especially on a sunday day with the glare reflecting.

Neil 20 years ago they did not have purpose built dive, charter boat’s as porg said if you send up a yellow blob, you are you are stating you have a problem.. And I’m  not a techie diver, same as a red flare I live on the south coast and if I see one I will ring the coast guard Maybe its diffrent in Oman
