The Wreck Debate - do not forget it!!!

With ref to the previous threads and the bit about contacting our MPs:-

I had to make two representations to my local MP. Apparently the House of Commons internal email distribution system is subject to losing emails!

Anyway, I got my letter back on 20th March and ..... well ........ it doesn't really say anything or do anything ....... I suppose there is the implication that further investigations may be undertaken but .......

2 bits of "interest" are:-

You may be aware that my colleague Anthony Sheen MP asked the question on the 8th February about who the members of the working groups were, and which organisations they represented. The response from Culture Minister, David Lammy MP, confirmed that there was no representation from diving organisations.

The Government intends to publish the Heritage Protection Review White Paper in the Spring, and this may include proposals made by the working Groups. I assure you that we will look carefully at any recommendations made, and will take your particular concerns on board whilst doing this.

I'm not sure what response I expected but .........

It would seem there is f*ck all we can do until the report is out. I know, from the BSAC forum, that they (Jane) is keeping an eye on the situation which is a relief. "COME ON" you BSACers!

It wouldn't suprise me, after all, your MP is unlikely to be able to answer the questions you ask so would have to refer it to ?????.

Mr/Ms ??????? will reply with a "stock answer", especially as a number of us basically used a "stock letter" to complain with.

I suppose that is how it works?

Yes. That is often how it works. It's certainly the most efficient way if you think about it.

I've not heard recently what's going on. I understand the chair of the DCMS select committee wrote to the Minister a few weeks back and is waiting to hear back, although this will be a couple of weeks yet. The Working Parties have now concluded, and I haven't heard what their recommendatons are.

I eventually got a reply from MP - Alistair Burt for NE Bedfordshire and would you believe, it is almost word for word the same as described above. They obviously have got a standard response letter system in operation or they have a central letter answering service for each party.

I met Jane Maddocks at the show on Saturday, and we had an interesting discussion. It is good that DCMS are involving BSAC and others now.

I am still very curious as to what they will propose.

Janos

I guess now that they realise that the UK diver community has a voice they will have a re-think. That will involve loads more committee meetings and tea and biscuits all at the taxpayer's expense, then come up with some watered-down rubbish that is as stupid as it is ineffectual but will please no-one. That's how government works isn't it?
