<font color='#0000FF'>I have noticed over the past few months that a lot of people that dive do not own or have access to transport in carrying thier kit about , and rely on other divers getting to &amp; fro to dive sites .

I think that if i was to take up diving and had my own kit , i would make sure that i passed my driving test and got a little runabout just to go diving . Just like Diggers old Metro.

been driving as long as I've been diving...

odd cos I have never been asked to give a lift to a none driving diver....there must be a statistic in there somewhere.

I chose a new vehicle on the basis of Izzy and I diving and weekending a lot to get tot the sites, hence a semi camper converted VW transporter (new shape), insulated (good to minus 25 degrees, we tested it in St Anton) and fitted with al basic essentials...also doubles as a work van, so I can run it through work.

its great, camp in car parks, harbours, camp sites etc.  bestplace is st Abbs....we are always first on the car park as we get there the night before...and theres a toilet.  last up in the morning, always get a parking spot and  usually travel at quiet times. fab.

get a licence, its very liberating.

we spent a great week ROI summer before last diving and wild camping on the beach. &nbsp;wa one of the best most relaxed trips we ever did. &nbsp;total peace and quiet with huge sandy beaches to your self in the evening and early morning... the sun sets were incredible.......diving was excellent too.

<font color='#0000FF'>I'm new in the charter boat game , but i have been diving for many years , and like to be treated as i treat others.

I have transport for carrying my dive kit,,,,,,,, i have boat for divers to sleep on overnight , if they are stuck for accom, also have a house with a sofa for anyone passing to bunk down on.

BUT tonight , someone rang my house asking if i was diving out of Dover in the morning ,,,,,, and when i said &quot;YES, but i'm afraid i'm fully booked all weekend &quot;, they then had the frigging balls to tell me that they are diving off someone elses RIB and didn't want to pay bank holiday rates in getting a TAXI to Dover, and as i was going there anyway, that i should give them a lift

Normally, my good hearted natured would have said fine , i'll meet you where you want , giving the TIME i needed to leave. BUT this chap , was so insistant, that ALL divers should look after each other in all ways.

This chap doesn't have transport , as spending all evening in the PUB spending his wages is better than getting him lessons and learning to drive.......... &nbsp;

Rant over.

Some people just have a resistance to parting with money if they can possibly avoid doing so. I take it was someone you don't actually know from your post?

<font color='#000080'>Umm... sorry for not having a car. I genuinely cannot afford the insurance, its not small beer for under 25 insurance, even if you drive a shed and it takes a lot of cash for the use I'd get of a car in Oxford where the one way system and lack of parking makes driving a nightmare. Am aware that I'm being cheeky when asking for lifts but usually people are happy to be able to split their petrol costs. I always phrase it as politely and with as little pressure as I can. Hope i haven't offended anyone on here the couple of times I've asked for a lift.

<font color='#000080'>Incidentally Janos is giving me a lift down to Dover tomorrow and I'm very gratefull as the public transport timings just don't work out. Otherwise I'd have had to spend tonight down there which would seriously trouble the budget, especially as hostel fully booked for tonight and would have had to be proper B&amp;B. I still have to get on a bus at 5am to get to London in time so think, it may be frustrating to be asked for a lift but not as frustrating as not having a car. I also think I should go to bed
