| HSE Diving Equipment Report Ok, it's a bit heavy going in places, but interesting nonetheless. http://www.hse.gov.uk/research/rrpdf/rr424.pdf This is the HSE's research paper into Diving Equipment and diving accidents, and there seems to be some correlation between faulty equipment and causes of death. Some of it is very sobering reading - especially the incidents section towards the end. I found it in relation to digging up the article referred to by Conor in the Cylinder Markings discussion.

| This report fails at page 8 Para 1.1 Project objectives, where it compares the number of fatalities in commercial diving, as regulated by the HSE, with the number in the unregulated recreational world. It utterly fails to mention the accident rate, either per thousand hours spent underwater or per thousand dives. I've shown the report to several disinterested scientists who have been dismayed that their taxes have again contributed to meaningless nonsense. There is no meaningful comparison between the two, yet the whole report sets out to justify further regulation on these spurious grounds. The rest of the report is just as "carefully" assembled. I mentioned various contentious points to its author, who said something along the lines of "Oh, those bits weren't written by me." Regards, Mark |

I can't believe it. Surely not. Not with our freedom loving, anti-red-tape government in power surely? Chris
