Unhappy The Dead Med

Just got back from a fantastic exped in Cyprus and apart from the Zenobia there was very little or no life at all.

We visited at least one reef a day and they are dead, 60 min looking for a fish in not fun in what could be some beutifull areas. Chapel rock had some life but kept gtting scared away by the glass bottom boats who seemed to home in on our DSMB'S so they could show some life under water

But on the Z the situation was reversed having to fight your way through the buggers to get a good look at the tat on the wreck, and what a wreck 35m swinthro in a shorty cant get better.

If anyone wants to go i can reconmend Ian at Octupus Diving he knows more about the wreck than the designers, and can give some fantastic guided tours.

Just goes to show that making an area no fishing can produce one of the best dives in the world

that's what I thought too, I dived the Zenobia, shortly after I started diving 3 years ago, It's a fantastic dive but not sure if it's enough for me to go back to cyprus for a week, as all the other dives were nothing special,
I suppose Ideally, I should try and have a long weekend there, that would be perfect

Malta is pretty similar. The diving is spectacular but apart from the occasional octopus and moray eel, fish of any size are few and far between. They did have a great white shark turn up when was last there however...

Errrrr not too sure I agree with this

There are some fantastic rock formations, caves, chimnies, pinicals and loads of good wrecks. Aside from this I thaught the fish life was cool but you have to stop and look closley. Its not like the red sea where you spend the whole dive ignoring everything waiting for the next big plagiac to say hi.

I actualy like Malta and Gozo diving, no boats very laid back.

I normally go to Ibiza once a year as my friend has an appartment out there - I'm glad to say the life in this part of the med is stunning... Tons of fish, morays, octopus, cuttlefish, large groupers (tho they very timid - understandable one you've seen the spearfishers out there )

Its definitely worth a trip inmy humble opinion.

I just got back from Cyprus too.

I alway got to the North side of the island, the turkish side. I dive with Amphora. They are a good bunch of people every laid back but always safe.

Anyway on a standard dive to one of the reefs I got to see, about 3 differant type of grouper, some of them quite large, 2 banded breem, Amberjacks. Octopus. 3 or 4 differat types of (this is ware the spelling sucks so I'll spell it as it sounds) nuidi branch. Squirrel fish are making there way there from the red sea too. I have also seen rays, flying gurnards anda Gnome. Ok I put the Gnome there myself.

On a good day turtles are seen They are not so common but are seen quite a lot.

This year I got the icing on the cake. On the way back from a dive site a pod of bottle nose dolphins Woohoo! Mask, fins and snorkle where on in a flash.

The north of the island is very friendly, Has the the amenites you would expect. It is also a hell of a lot cheaper then the south. Crossing the green line is not a problem these days. I have done it a lot from north to south to dive the Zenobia. A wreck is the only thing the north is missing

“The Dead Med”

What do you expect, it’s the biggest sewer in the world.
Think of all those millions of tons of sh*te that gets dumped in it and nowhere to go.
It’s non tidal.

Stick to UK diving
