PSA - BA and baggage

SO and I flew with BA to tenerife for a diving holiday.

We had one bag with a weight of 27kg.

The check-in person told us that come Jan 2007 BA will not carry ANY baggage with a weight greater than 23kg. If any single bag is greater than 23kg BA will not carry it. Something to do with health and safety.

Check-in person also mentioned that scuba equipment would also gain extra weight allowance.

Just thought I'd pass on the info.

BAA have a 32kg max bag weight which is for H & S reasons.

Yep I was wrong

BA's website does say for your route 23kg in economy.

At present the max weight of any one bag is 32kg.

However, we were informed that from Jan 2007 this max weight will drop to 23kg.

checked it the other day with BA now I was not realy listening but Im sure the guy said something from next jan there will be a limit of x kilos and only 1 bag alowed so if you have two bags of 12kg each you will still be charged 60 quid for the second bag.

hope someone else who was more awake than I was can verfiy this :-)

....and yet another reason not to fly BA.

Sent my Executive Club card back three years ago when they dropped all flights out of Oman.....something was happening 1000 miles away and they were worried!
Emirates fly direct to Manchester and give you 10kg extra free as a diver.

American Airlines

Have recently changed their luggage policy. You are allowed 100pounds per person of luggage but are only allowed 50 pounds (23kg) in one suitcase. Even 1 pound more and they sting you for $25. Works out cheaper/better to buy another suitcase and check in 2 bags.

Big Thumbs up for Emirates , I always chose to fly with them if they cover the route I'm on.

Their Cattle Class seats have the same leg room as most other airlines Business Class seats.

In flight entertainment is cool, about 70 films to choose from, just click a coulple of buttons and the film starts.

Additional free weight allowance for dive kit

All this plus free drinks (except Champagne)
