Hasting's wreck decision.

I just spotted a post on the BSAC forum (by Adrian Kelland) and I have shamelessly C&P'd the link here - thanks Adrian . In fact, Adrian's thread title of MOD not appealing merchant ship wreck protection status was a lot better than mine as well!

BBC NEWS | England | Southern Counties | Sisters hail war grave decision

As I said in reply to Adrian's post - a potential ouch for wreck divers.

At least the quote from the sisters referred to 'look but not touch'?

[EDIT]"We hope now that the divers will just look, not touch," said Mrs Ledgard.

I would have thought a couple of sisters looking and touching an old wreck like you would have been your best possible outcome...

How does the joke go? Two old ladies were walking down the street when a stripper flashed his 'crown jewels' at them. One of the ladies fainted, the other has a stroke....

Does this mean we can still legally dive it but just not allowed to remove anything ? does that include a lobster that lives there ?
Seriously it's all been salvaged years ago anyway !
Unfortunately this case has alot more implications as I know of a group of divers who go & dive unknow marks to see what is there ,sometimes its a wreck sometimes not but I was told that they have found at least 4-5 previously unknown wrecks & have proceeded to remove everything they can before they report them to reciever of wrecks or the positions to the admiralty .Mainly their reason is that they have paid out thousands over the years to go out on fruitless searchs & when they do find something they are going to have what they can !
Also the exclusion zones on wrecks are not enforcable even when close to shore ! There is a wreck discovered this year of off Pevensey Bay that could be more important than the Mary Rose apparently .An exclusion zone was put in place but it makes it rather easy when the local yacht club happen to put a racing buoy slap bang on top of it .One local boat put 2 divers in to " have a look " at the wreck with absolutely no comeback at all even though it is only in about 15 metres of water .
