Is it worth selling a pony cylinder second hand

Hi All.

I have a pony cylinder out of test. Is it worth selling. My calcs say its only worth about 15.00.

Its a Roff one (not sure of spelling on that one)

Should I keep it or sell? Whats it worth?

Jamie

Well if it's only worth £15 is it worth the hassle?

Jamie,

The brand is probably Roth - Kent diving used to sell them, and I've known a couple of other retailers sell them too.

If you have a use for it then get it tested and use it. If you don't have a use for it then you might as well sell/give it away.

To be honest if you ebay it you will probably get a decent price despite no test. If it's in decent nick then fair's fair.

How old is the tank out of curiosity? Three are quite a few people who will whip the valve out, have a look for serious corrosion, then just fill it in a garage setup and leave it at that. Not ideal, but people do it, and they take their own risks. They will probably be aware that the tank isn't worth much though.

The valve might be useful to someone though. Not sure whether it's MDE etc, if so then worth £15 without the tank as is.

Digs.

Stick it on eBay and "let the market decide"... provide a fair description & P&P or pickup only. If it sells you have some cash, if it doesn't bin it.

I got a good price for an AutoAir, from what's posted on forums you'd think no one would touch it

Like a car with no MOT, It's a risk to buy but someone out there will take the risk.
If it needs a visual inspection it'll cost about £20 which makes it worth about £40ish.
try it sold as seen for £20 ono.
Paintballers may be interested for the air guns.

I have just tackled the same problem.
I sold the old one for £10 incl MDE valve.
Bought a new one for £55 ! Kent diving 06/06 test date.
There is a place in Derby doing Vis tests for £8 but I live in Essex

I have a 300bar 3L cylinder that is out of test and leaks from the neck at the full 300.
As far as I'm concerned that makes it economically scrap.

If anybody disagrees they can pop in and collect it.

Now if you put it on e-bay, with that description and someone bought it ..........

You may even get the price of a pint of beer, so the question is would you rather have a beer or nothing??

LOL, Paul

I'd have to waste my time answering daft questions, saying I won't close the auction early, explaining that 'leaks' means it bubbles, no I won't enclose the change for your £5000 cheque and finally argue with some idiot who thing 'buyer collects from Brighton' means I will ship it if he argues the point enough.

I'd probably buy somebody a beer not to have to go through all that.

It's here and waiting.
Being round it's not even much good as a door stop.

If you bin the thing, I'd suggest cutting a slot in it with an angle grinder to render it unuseable just in case someone "recovers" it and subsequently injures themselves. In this increasingly letigious society they could possibly come after you for their own stupidity.

Why is it called "common sense" when it seems to be so rare?
