What is it with shirt sizes?

There's a shopping mall under the building where I work, a couple of days back I noticed a scuba tank and BC in a shop window and thought "hello, has my mate Tim got some competition?".

It turns out that Gant are promoting a sponsorship deal with J M Cousteau. I went in to look at a polo shirt, and apart from the fact that the logos were sewn on patches rather than nicely embroidered, their size XL would pass as anyone elses Medium!

So I turned round and walked out thereby saving myself the thick end of 50 quid!

I'm just a bit bothered now as I have a DAN shirt on order, hope they don't skimp on their sizes!

What's occuring?
