    New Book by Monty Halls

    I like Monty Halls (need to say that first).

    Has anyone seen this book:

    Amazon.co.uk: Go Scuba Dive (Go): Books: Monty Halls

    I will quote from Amazon "This is the fast track to great scuba diving. Read it, watch it, do it with this innovative book and 30-minute DVD for anyone itching to get up off the sofa and go!     Seems (to me) to be saying that this book will teach you to dive, no instructor required. I think a non-diving person may think that. I wonder if Monty is aware of the synopsis this book is given on Amazon? I am sure (hope) that when you actually read the book Monty has set out the actual, clear steps to safely train to become a scuba diver, and that this book is an aid, however Amazon must accept some responsibility for what i think is a misleading overview.

    I agree with you dct on how it sounds from the Amazon synopsis.

    If we haven't heard by then, I will ask him in a couple of weeks when he is doing one of his book tour thingys at my club.

    I suspect that somewhere very near the beginning is a disclaimer and/or suggestion that readers undergo regular training as well.

    As for Amazon's involvment, they also said how womnderful Shark Fin soup is, so i would take any review with a metaphorical pinch of salt.

    yep, that certainly made me see amazon in a very different light....

    if only it were the case that montys book was all we needed to be a superb and streamlined diver.... when i think of all the time and money spent on courses, equipment and practicing......

    It appears that Monty is a friend of YD!

    I think he should be asked by whoever gets to see him first. It would be interesting to see if/how the books blurb differs from the Amazon one.

    Absolutely! he is a lurker apparently, but I haven't seen him explain himself on Mals thread yet

    Every now and again we have a thread which starts off fairly sensibly, like this one. Then after about 2 or 3 pages, someone (usually Mark Davies) comes along and tells us he is gay, we all object and say that one day we will bring proof that he isn't. Even when me, Vonny and Helen accosted him at LIDS it wasn't seen as enough proof.
