I try to be roughly correctly weighted although I wouldn't hassle if I'm
a couple of kilos negative.
Then I hang two full steel stages on at about 3Kgs+ each negative.

Yes I know it's wrong but I do everything slowly so I don't get buoyancy problems with it. I reason that if I can hold a stop at 6m without a blob I'm pretty much doing it OK.

Honest answer is that a lot of people dive overweighted without realising it and when they find out what correct weighting is - it's a revelation for their buoyancy. For every kilo you're overweighted you need one litre of additional air in your BCD just to get neutral. Three kilos - three litres. Imagine all that air expanding and contracting inside your BCD as you move up and down in the water column. Most 12l cylinders contain about 2.5 kilos of air - so you need to be that much overweighted at the beginning of a dive - but otherwise spend some time getting it spot on and you'll find everything a whole lot easier. HTH

You think so? I disagree. I think a lot of people dive underweighted. I watch people struggle to keep their safety stops regularly, especially when warm water diving where there sometimes seems to be some sort of competition to carry the least weight and the smallest tank.
