| 2p i went CCR at the earliest oppurtunity and haven't looked back at all. I'd done a couple of years diving and the oppurtunity arose. I have the good fortune to know a range of CCR divers who often buddy up with me and help progress my experience, i've no intention of racing to depths but building slowly my experience and knowledge and comfort levels. better to get in early and learn nice and slowly.

Mod 1 with Dennis Vessey You will need Advanced Nitrox, you can do this at the same time. 100 dives is the minimum for the PSAI coarse for the meg. I assume it will be similar for other units. It is a different mindset, but if you are prepared to be absolutely scrupulous with your unit's preparation, have the patience to do the checklists without fail everytime then go for it, Only you know whether you can do that, there are no shortcuts. I have received some advice from some very experienced people lately, one of the things that cropped up was "Go somewhere warm and dive the unit all week" Unfortunatley I had booked a holiday to a non RB friendly destination before I did the course Whatever you choose, good luck. Oh and don't be sucked into the "This is the best unit in the world internet bollox" There is no perfect unit. How you choose a unit is very very difficult, there is a lot of marketing bollox, there is a lot of agency bollox and its hard to cut through the crap..........................................:fro wn: I dive a meg, I cannot recommend it to you for the simple reason I have no idea what the others are like. If you do go for it with RB, try to find an instructor who Owns a unit and dives it themselves. There are a couple of people on this board who may be able to advise if you ask. If you do it, don't be afraid to ask questions, the only really stupid question is the one you didn't ask. Expect to take some stick if you do ask a numpty question, but take it as a learning experience Whatever you decide Good luck

Matt ps I seriously considered going from a single OC gas source to a semi rb to get more bottom time without the weight issues of a twinset, until I realised of course bailout has to be thought about too. Having said that I would go rb if my diving required it, so in short work out what diving you want to do and what kit will do the job, as Chasey says if its >50m then RB is probably the way to go. |

| Having been through the slow route from single to double to trimix etc etc I would say that if you are going to definitly end up going CCR then do it now. Talk to a reputable instructor like Al Wright, Phil Short, Gary Fox, Aaron Bruce etc and discuss it with them. I know some instructors have taken on CCR students with 20 dives. CCR is a different skill set to OC, so if you are definitly going to end up there then you may as well save all the time and effort in between

I dont see it as any different to the 1001 questions we get on here asking should I buy a BC or a wing or Should I buy a semi or a dry suit for UK diving..... To take ants point though if you are unsure as to whether CCr is for you do a course on an instructors unit and get a feel for it
