Hi Chris,

Firstly stop using the faulty hard disc, you can recover the missing files, but only if they haven't been over written. We use file scavanger for data recovery, it's very good and you'll be shocked at what it will recover, (including one of the bosses porn collection and naked photo's of his wife which he thought he's deleted!). If you've got 160Gb it will take a while.

I have been an IBM hardware engineer for over 20 years and I am shoked at the thought of using a hammer on something as delicate as a disk drive.......







.....dropping it on the floor from a great height works just as well and takes less effort.

*puts feet back on desk and waits for servers to go wrong*

Sorry I can't help with the original problem....I am a hardware engineer and you obviously have a software issue.
