Celebration...

Ok, good news is I have been awarded a £400 tax free bonus.
I've just passed my nitrox course. Now was thinking of getting my two 12s O2 cleaned and then getting a tekwing and twinning up. Now should I spend my cash on the wing? And.. still not bought an o2 analyser, will I get a wing, backplate, bands and analyser for that type cash?

Bad news... Have to get a receipt so no 2nd hard gear..

Grrr

Dan

Dan,

Don't get an analyser just yet. The shops who sell you the nitrox must analyse it for you, and you have to sign for it too. I bought one but have used it little in the last couple of years. They are usefull if you're getting clean air fills/topoffs to see what you come out with, but again the shop will let you use the analyser anyway.

Save that bit of the cash for something else.

Hiya Dan,

Good news on the nitrox course.
Gear - Depends on whether you want to dive independent or manifolded twins.

If you're going for independents, then a tekwing with Buddy bands (i.e. NOT steel ones) is a good option. Then you don't need a backplate (unless you want to switch to a different one later). This rig can also be used with a single for holiday diving etc. Should come in around £250 e.g. Kent Diving - Buddy - NEW Buddy TekWing - BCD's

There are other ways of doing it of course, but this is a cheap option, and it would leave you £150 odd for an analyser which is about the right price. IIRC you already have all the regs etc that you'd need. You might want to think about a third 12l cylinder as well, so you can swap in a spare before the second dive etc.

If you want to dive a manifolded set, then to be honest you'd be better off buying a complete twinset rather than converting your singles IMHO. You are also talking about quite a bit more £££, and might want to be looking at a different wing setup as well in my view.

The decision about independents / manifolded should be made on the basis of how you want to dive, not what you can afford - hopefully you're already clear on that.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks Fiona... its a company thing, tax deductable etc.

So.. which wing for starters..? Having only 50 odd dives under my belt with a ScubaPro BCD, should I opt for a wing that services singles as well as twins. Am I trying to run (or stumble) before I can walk ?

Is it ok to have mismatched singles as one of my faber 12s is a few years older therefore it sits an inch lower. Or can that be fixed with a twin boot? Should I opt for independent 12s (drinking 50 bar from each), or am I just confusing myself.

With the temptation of free cash, it's all too much, I think I need to have a lie down for a few minutes.
