If so how do you prepare them?

Bag up a load- they're lovely. If you hold out the bag behind them and scare the crap out of them the fizz backwards into it.

To stop them escaping, rip their tails off and discard the heads. That way you get a bag of tails that you don't have to rip off later. Simply boil and scoff with bread, beer and mayo.

Hmm - aren't partial landings illegal like with sharks?

Anyway, technically squat lobbies aren't scampi. Scampi are Dublin Bay Prawns.

in both cases you're simply returning the inedible part back to the sea where they get recycled

Oh dear if anyone takes that seriously then you need to be kicked in the whotsits. Shark finning is not big or clever so don't do it, kids.

They're equally as tasty. Yup, when I get chance. The more the better - they're really odd looking though, they look like something off alien!

Young's do frozen ones and we are about to have some tonight - very tasty. Woz is right though - they are devils to retain when you have caught them if you don't do as he says or have another way of keeping them in. I use a plastic cable clip ('c' shaped thing) which I clip part way down my goody bag so I can put one in the top bit, close the bag, release the clip, shake the squattie down and close the clip ready for the next one.

Ron Young has some good recipes in his book on the Farnes.

I just crush the head when I bag them, though woz`s version does save time later.
Boil, shell, add to fish pie.
