If I met Mr Ellyatt in a pub I wouldn't be interested in a conversation, he's done nothing that should impress anyone - unless of course you're a non-diver. I'll give his book the same 'respect'. The very title leads me to think its a bit of a nonsense read.

I really enjoyed the book too. Granted it wasn't proofed too well but that also gives it a charm of its own in my opinion.

Well worth a read I thought

Do you have to be impressed by what the Author has achieved to enjoy a book? If that is the case there wouldn't be many diving books read would there, after all, the likes of Sheck Exley, the Rouses and the "cast" of half the books i've read are all dead and how impressive's that???

Obviously i'm not as advanced, both in my diving or literary experiences as some others!

Now that Shakespeare bloke, he wrote a couple of halfway decent tomes, i wonder if i'm up to reading them yet?

I've done several courses with Mark and he is as entertaining as his book is. He is one of the safest and most thorough divers I have met and would certainly trust him as a buddy on any dive more than anyone else I know.

Yes the book is written in an amateurish way, but then he's a diver and not a writer. If anyone wants to read the first few chapters they are available online on his website HERE

He did seem to get bent/have rapid ascents/out of air situations quite frequently, as I recall. Considering all the planning that went into his dives, I'd have been more impressed if he hadn't.

Entertaining stuff, though.

I've read the book and throughly enjoyed it. OK not the best English but didn't bother me. At least he knows what he is talking about.

You're right there Kirsty, i commented to SWMBO several times i couldn't believe he was around to write another chapter after some of the things that happened!

I don't know if he's a good diver, i don't know if i'd have a conversation with him in a pub although i expect i would as i tend to be a sociable sort, i'm certainly not impressed by anything he's done other than making a living out of the hobby we all enjoy, all I started off to point out was that I enjoyed the book and that IMHO others should at least give it a go. If you only get two pages or halfway through it and hate it fine, give it away and find something else to try.

Just started it and so far I'm really enjoying it.

I met Mark at the weekend when he was giving his talks at Vobster and he came across as a decent and likable bloke.
