poor remake of The Deep, where a couple of divers find a disturbed wreck that reveals a large cargo of morphine ampules/which is coincidentally laid over an ancient spanish galleon.

and they get chased by local gangsters after the drugs....

The Abyss directors cut makes for a better film than the cinema release. If you can forgive the dodgy scale model effects at the end and the omission of any kind of decompression obligation (assume "advanced alien tech" must've overcome that one)

The breathable fluid system they use was quite interesting at the time it was released and there were a few articles pointing out research into using this.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Thunderball yet....

Personally I thought it was fantastic! We were obviously concentrating on different aspects of the film!

I'm sure watching the deep as a young impressionable chap had an influence on wanting to learn to dive....

Mmmmm, Jacqueline Bisset is credited with being an important factor in the popularity of wet T shirt competitions too..

Although I guess the diving without even any bouyancy compensators, let alone doing it on singles will draw much scorn from the purists...
