Parking at Stoney

Am off to Stoney on Sunday and thought with the cold weather we have been having I would prebook at parking space so I would not have to get up at silly o'clock and try to get some sleep in the car.

Whilst I am not keen about paying £10, between two of us it's not so bad. But it did get me thinking, if Stoney extended the scheme to the entire bottom car park, it would make things easier for everyone.

People that have booked do not need to get up at silly oclock, people that have not booked do not have to get up at silly oclock because they know they have no chance of getting into the bottom carpark, local residents would not get upset with people turning up at silly o'clock.

Granted Stoney would make a fair bit of money, but then they are a business at the end of the day.

As an alternative to extending the scheme, what about introducing a scheme where only cars with more than one person are permitted to use the lower carpark.

So what does the YD massive think of the idea? love it hate it?

Mike

and where does this leave us who travel to meet buddies from the different parts of the country? I have in the past been at the gates at silly o clock and buddy turned up later who parked up cardiac hill. this would mean we both had to park at cardiac hill.

i now tend to turn up at 11ish as the early birds have gone and ther are spaces.

this year I am going to arrive for opening and trolley the kit to a friendly YDer who has booked a car spoace and then fetch the car down later on to load up

Rules rules rules.
What is it with people that they want to make rules?
Not for them but for me?

People who want a lower car park space know what the deal is. Turn up early early or pay. I paid. Seeya on the 11th/12th. I'm the one in the bent Rangie (assuming I can't get it bashed out by then).

ROTFL
OK it's the 12/13th

Actually I'm in court on the 11th and hopefully saying "It was them, yer Honour" for the guys that mugged me last year. If I'm in a big sulk on Saturday they got an ASBO and £50 out the till to cover their expenses coming to court.

I used to think that one way of sorting out the weekend parking issue, and encourage diverlog membership, would be to give priority in the bottom carpark to diverlog holders. But as i thought about it a bit more, i thought perhaps all that does is shift the problem. It is what they have done at Vobster. The bottom car park is tiny (in comparison to Stoney), and you can't reserve a space in it unless you are a member - which is fair enough. So I don't go to Vobster because the other benefits doesn't make it worthwhile, and there is no way I am hiking up and down that hill which makes Stoney's cardiac hill look like a walk in the park .
It makes sense for Stoney to have an almost unlimited number of prebooking spaces available, it is much safer for divers not to have a stupidly early start when they are diving.

The idea of only letting multi user cars in the bottom car park is not brilliant, though. It might be a 'green policy' but if my buddy comes from a long way off, i would be a bit miffed if we were both stuck in the upper car park just because i drove alone.

Nigel,
If that happens, how about coming over like a social worker, blaming it on their upbringing and offering to take them diving the next day as a reward? (I didn't say anything about bringing them back) I'm sure you could find enough people to help you..................

(at the risk of going back to the OP )

Was chatting with Spacehopper about this between dives last week. TBH I think £10 is a bit much for parking in the bottom car-park. But if they set the fee too low, you would end up with the top car-park full and still spaces in the bottom one. (Assuming the bottom car-park was reserved for pre-booked only)

A compromise might be to have all the spaces on the left reserved for pre-booking, and the right hand side for first-come first served. And a fee of £5.

(Do Stoney read this forum?? )

Which left? As you look down the car park from the shop, or as you look up the carpark from the loos?
