Ooh good thread... So many to choose from... Well the most expensive worst mistakes would have to be a Scubapro Spitzbergen drysuit (£499 for the suit, about another £500 trying to make it usable and finally gave it away) or the a Custom Divers TBD twin bladder wing (spend loads of money on it replacing stuff that kept breaking and then sold it when it was fixed for a fraction of what I paid for it).

All my worst bits of kit have been reels. Scubapro, Buddy and Beaver. I like the MGE reel, I dont know what make the reel I am using is now as its borrowed from a mate buts its baby blue and yellow colour but it works for me.

Beaver puffin reel - jammed all the time (only used a handfull of times!)
Beaver Nova torch aka "Tomy my first dive torch" (see other posts)
Beaver "heavy duty" DSMB - frayed badly with very little use; also used to unravel itself and trail behind me....

Is anyone noticing a pattern here???

Ah ....I bought the wing ! No prioblems ! Done now 150+ dives travelled the world and never let me down .....Thanks Rob you must have fixed everything !

Beaver reel ........gets my vote ! Looks like deploying nice and then throws a tantram and unreels everywhere into a perfect tangle...(or maybe its the bad workman blaming his tools ?)....thank goodness I borrowed it and could hand it back !.......KT no issues and shiney !

A pattern? Nope! I have Beaver drysuit which has done me 150 dives and only recently have i had to get a small patch on it as I had made a small hole on the leg.

I must admit my Beaver DSMB sounds like it looks very similar to yours but its done same amount d dives as my suit and it rarely unravells unless I havent rolled it up correctly in the first place.

Northern diver divemaster drysuit. The material started going bobbly after 3 dives and now after a year is fraying nicely. The zip won't slide freely no matter how much wax and zip slip is applied. The inflation valve only works if I really ask it nicely and the pockets are only suitable if I want to carry a saucer on one side and a dildo on the other.

A guy I first started diving with bought a RoHo suit that was tissue paper thin so used to puncture.....but I put that down to him trying to squeeze into holes smaller than he could fit through.

Mine is without doubt the Buddy reel but seeing as you've discounted that then I have to vote this.

Aladin Air Integrated computer.

I dived it for several years before I finally worked out it was basically a crap gimmick.

The breathing alarm (sorry work rate alarm) would be fine some dives and then on others would go ape as soon as you breathed. I think what it does is compare your breathing rate of the last few minutes with the current rate and as soon as you exceed a few percent above that it triggers.
Quite frankly I know when I'm exerting myself, I don't need a computer to tell me that and when the crap hits the fan the last thing I need is a maniac bleeping in my ear to calm down!

Then there's the time I dived the Scylla and the bloody thing went into Err mode. It still had 40% battery when I jumped in.....I wasn't expecting to have to change the battery until there was 10 or 15% left.

Then of course it doesn't do gasses.

And if you bend it then it completely locks you out....no guage mode nothing just SoS. Then there's the wet contacts issue......nuff said

Finally, god help you if a contact breaks.....Scubapro will only be interested in giving you a discount on a new computer rather than fixing it.

Pile of crap.

Steve

I've got some jets now, and they suit me way better than my mares x3's. No cramp and I might even keep up with you in capers :-)
