| The profile at And another thing I’m the motormouth you want in No 10 - Times Online is interesting... “He is an old-school journalist who learnt his craft the hard way. He delivers copy on time, word perfect, and can produce stories very quickly, even on a train. His headed notepaper says, ‘Jeremy Clarkson, journalist’. That’s how he sees himself.” ... "His first columns for Performance magazine revealed an effortlessly fluent writer." ... But Gill reveals a dark secret of the Clarkson household: “In his kitchen he scrupulously separates all his rubbish into recyclable and nonrecyclable items.” And, Gill says: “He is far, far cleverer than he lets on.” It's his writing (he is very much the mastermind behind scripting Top Gear) that impresses me - however much I find many of his views hard to stomach. I live in hope that he's not as extreme as he seems.

| Not quite, Your bank details are available, on cheque books etc, as is your personal data (Jewellers, white goods shops etc). JC made a valid point, look at the article again, the bank (Barclays I believe) and the Diabetics association created a direct debit without JC's explicit approval. It is my understanding that Direct Debits are not supposed to be created without the explicit authorisation of the person involved. The banks' misuse of the DPA then shows what I already know, in that the DPA is never used to protect data, merely being a catch-all for when a mistake has been made and you want to cover it up. So what has been proven here, is how insecure the verification policies of the banking sector and the Direct Debit scheme is/are. Should the FSA not be getting involved here BTW? Also, with the explosion in genealogy sites most 'secure' words are now well known - it is up to the data custodians to understand their responsibilities and look to creating a secure environment, and up to us in the security industry to educate rather than jump on the latest band wagon
