I now know what screwdrivers, allan keys and spanners are for!

Well, she's gone and done it; after a dive just over a week ago, where my Cressi Freeflow 2000's lived up to their name, quite a fair way down for Stoney Cove, she'd bottled out of diving at the YD gig, and bought a twinset.

Last night was the first trial in the pool and managed to do a couple of shut down drills, hovering mid water above the filter grate (that was full of icky plasters and hair) for 'encouragement'. So am feeling quite proud of myself. Plus trimmed flat, as thought I might be head down for some reason. No weights and felt VERY heavy.

It's surprising how many adjustments I have to make still, moving the bands down so the bottles sit higher up my back for one. I will be trying these at Stoney this Saturday, but they are out of O2 clean, so will be diving on AIR (Birmingham, August 2007 air at that!)!!! Very unlike me, so will have to be ultra-conservative on that score.

I have absolutely no clue what my weighting will be like, but say I dive with 12Kg on a single 10 and pony (still feel heavy on this!), can anyone give me an idea of what I could start with for a weight check, for twin 10's?

Also have already identified a design flaw in my harness, saying harness, it's more like a bcd strap. It restricted shoulder movement, so will have to see if I can adjust it narrower.

So, would like to say thanks to a few members of my club that frequent on here (Steve, Paul and Monty from Heanor - the BEST club in my opinion!), for advice and practical help, namely Steve changed my cylinder knobs to the tactile ones that I were given. And there's no safer place to try them, than in a pool with 2 off-duty ambulance men present!

I may even follow the club's tradition of inverted twins, but will try my best to break that mould and keep them 'this way up' for a while!

And the best news is - I can breathe all I want now!!!

So safe diving for 2008,

ATB,
Lou

Welcome to the world of twins.

However, a quick note of caution. Twin 10's are infamously bad for trying to trim out with people having allsorts of issues getting them in the right place.

Can't help with the weighting though as I don't know what the cylinders weight, but the pool is the best place to start. Personally I would go in with just the backplate, harness and what you normally wear to dive in a puddle (undersuits etc) and no weights. Then gradually clip weights on until you can hover with nearly empty tanks. Once you have the weighting sorted you can distribute it to get the trim right.

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Thanks Gareth, the go in with no weights has been suggested and I will be packing all the weight blocks I own in the car. It will be trial and error; as for the trimming issue with 10's, I have heard both sides of the story.

It's one of these things that is 'don't know until you try', and have 6 months to get it right, as this is going to be my Scapa rig in June! (hopefully.)

Cheers,
Lou

I used to need 10Kg with a single 15 and when I went to twin 12s with steel backplate I needed 4kg if thats any help.

as gloc said have a friend on the side helping with weights.

Kath2407 dives twin 10s and has a good trim( better than mine ) so looks like you will be playing with weights for a while

Thanks DSD,
I was thinking along the lines of half my normal weighting as a starting point, 4 Kg in shot and 2 1 Kg blocks.

Cheers,
Lou

You're welcome Lou! Thanks for the praise but you ought to speak to Steve about how much treatment you would have got if you had needed assistance. The clues in the "off duty" bit

Glad you stayed above the grid, there's no greater reason to perfect your bouyancy than to avoid that crap collection unit!

FWIW your trim looked fine and you seemed ok on drills! (I mean able to reach)

lol, lol, lol. Even if it's only a psychological boost, it did the job!

I can reach... just. Hence going to move those bands down a bit.

Hi Lou,

From what I saw you'll be fine, I use 12lb in the sea and 8lb in fresh water if that's any help to you.

Safe diving,
Steve

Cheers Steve,
4 Kg difference between fresh and salt? Is that the norm for twins? (It's 2 Kg difference for my single rig)

Cheers,
Lou
