Kinda somewhere inbetween The course is not really the place to do your first ever twinset dive, but at the same time, there is no need to try and learn to do shutdowns etc in order to take the course.

It looks like I'll be making it over to the Irish Dive show in a few weeks, so feel free to come and find me and have a chat.

Thanks

John

wreckweasel did a twinset familiarisation with me, I learnt a lot from him , and the safety diver . I dunno if he still does this but as others have said its worthwhile talking to someone who dives em regularly to gain some knowledge.

We are too hung up on 'courses'. Education and learning are not synonymous with courses. I am happy to go to a man I trust and paying them to teach me something however a lot of the best things I have learnt have come from people who would never have considered charging me. Frankly, a lot of things you need to know to dive a pony or a twinset are not complicated and do not rate a 'course'. What you need is time in the water diving one.
Well said that man...

There are a number of ways to learn how to use a twinset.

1. Find a friend who can show you the basics
2. Trial and error on your own
3. Get an isntructor to teach you

Each has their pluses and minuses and the best option for one person may not be the best option for another.

The same question came up recently and I posted this at the time.
Twinset training?

For your specific position I don't think that going down the twinset route is necessary at the moment. I'd suggest doing your AOW and then getting in some UK diving as a priority.

a similar boat

I am in a similar boat, I am currently looking at switching to a a twinset and would certainly be interested at an intro course, I think £120 is pretty good value for Impartial advice before a spend 7 or 8 times that much on a set up, If anyone is running a course in the near future let me know.

I run them regularly, next one is 7th Feb (this Thursday) at Capernwray, then 16th Feb at Wrasbury. I can also run them one to one at Wraysbury midweek.

i'll give another vote in favour of doing a twinset course. I didnt but had people to guide me and offer advice, i only recently saw other ways of acieiving the same outcome that could have saved a bit.
I spent a fair bit getting it right for me over a period of a year - a course would shortcut this process dramatically. The other main benefit of a familiarisation course would be to look at the options with twin sets and maybe try some of the variations - or at least see others trying the variations.
