Post Orkney Underwater Search Unit

As a few of you may have seen in this months Diver mag, a group of us have got together and formed OUSU. The group is headed by John Thornton, owner and skipper of the Karin up here and there are 10 of us involved from a very wide diving background.

The need for the team came about through tragedy, when a diver was lost inside the Konig at the end of the dive season last year. Despite the efforts of people immediatley after he was reported missing (a large number of us entered the water to search, including myself), the police and Navy, he is yet to be located. Accordingly the wreck of the Konig is currently off limits to divers. For the sake of families and to help keep the wrecks open for others to visit, the unit was formed.

We hope we can get support from YD and the diving community for our intentions.

I would also hope we are never needed, dive safe out there.

Good effort Helen and best wishes to all involved in the project.

I too hope you never have to be used in anger.

Take care.

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Sounds like a fantastic idea. Highly commendable. You certainly have any support I can possibly give. None of us know when something like this could be the difference between life or death for us or our friends. You're all doing a great thing!

Let's hope that this team not be needed too often...

Well done Helen. Searching for lost divers can be pretty stressful, particularly when it turns out to require body recovery. It's impressive that you should take this on. Have a green.

I hope I don't sound insensitive if I ask what the plans are for the Konig?
