What do you do when your Buddy calls &cancels when you've already arrived at the lake

Today I was due to dive with a lovely chap I’d met at Wraysbury a few weeks ago, we met for coffee, talked about going on holiday together …… no it wasn’t Si!

I reached the lake sorted out my cylinders, paid my fees and received a call telling me that he could not make it

So, what do you do ……

1) wander round chatting to people hoping to make a new friend/ future buddy
I live a very sheltered life in my village and don’t make friends very easily

2) go round asking people if they would mind if I joined them
I’m rather shy and would find this very difficult

3) get a cup of tea and watch people kit up and write a longer list of things to buy at LIDS
I don’t drink tea and already have a long shopping list for LIDS

4) go home and do the vacuuming
yes, this is exactly what I did

5) anything else

Venus

Depending on the lake I would have kitted up and gone for a solo dive OR gone back and let all his tyres down.

i kind of agree with that !

cant be much of a friend leaving you in t he lurch at a dive site !

i definatley wouldnt waste the trip and i would walk up and down 5 minutes and

ask someone if they minded if u joined them as your crap buddy has let you

down ?

even if your shy, divers are usualy a friendly lot and wont see anyone turning ya

down

Sadly this is not allowed at Wraysbury unless you have a solo diving ticket which they prefer you gain from them

I'd be pretty miffed and I'm only about 30 minutes away but it's probably at least £10 worth of petrol for me and I'd end up spending more on coffee and food. So I would not be over-enamoured with said buddy and would expect the excuse to be a good one

Others travel a lot further than me and at this time of year there is no guarantee of anyone to dive with.
Sorry to hear you missed the diving today Venus but we'll have loads of fun next weekend and aren't Wales doing well

I'd stop asking losers who lterally leave you high and dry and find some
genuine divers.

There are loads of group trips on here and other fora and even if they are
club based, you can still come along as a guest.

We run trips almost every weekend and they usually have about a dozen,
so one more wont make any difference.

If you can handle the trip down South the offer is there. If not then i'm
sure others more local to you on here will do the same. Just ask

Tel.

Are we talking about dive buddies or boyfriends here ?

I think Venus' buddy is a genuine diver, just lacked some forethought, consideration and, possibly, respect. That's the person, not the diving and I doubt he'll dare do it again after this thread !!!

I figure these things do happen from time to time - I just don't want them to happen to me

I didn't get a reason for the cancellation - although, I'm not blaming him, too much, maybe a little

I actually don't live too far from Wraysbury so my carbon foot print is not so big

I admit that I did see a group of three walking around and asked one of them if they would like another person to make up two Buddy pairs, it turns out that one was a non-diver just watching

I felt a bit rubbish and went home

Yes, Wales is/ are doing fabulously ..... I'm an honoury Welsh person you know!

Yes, Portland next week will be great - if we leave the Shires early

Now, I need to sort out my Easter Bank Holiday

Good for you I'm not sure I'd have been brave enough. MJH found me a buddy one time at Wraysbury but it was November and busier
