Question Dive insurance - valuables limit!

Just looking at getting some dive insurance sorted, and on the advice on posts here I've been looking at direct travel. They appear to offer higher limits on stuff than the others (DAN, westfield, snowcard, divemaster etc), and they are cheaper.

Couple of questions I had was that it appears on all insurance there is a limit for belongings, or in this instance dive kit. Apparently on their top policy its £300 per single item, or £500 if it's a pair (regs are classed as this apparently). That's all well and good, but the £500 limit is the total they will pay out if the kit is damaged. If it's lost on the plane thats £3k, but what happened if you wanted to claim for damage/theft etc to all your kit at the dive site? Apparently they would only cover up to £500? What happens then? Any one got any more info on this, or had to claim in this way?

Oh and after reading some of the posts here, apparently you don't need to be accompanied by a guide/marshall etc.

Just a note if you lose your camera - the camera, housing and Lens all count as one item so you only get £300 back MINUS your excess!!

If they can lump that together then other items will definatly be lumped together if it means the insurance company has less to pay out.

Remember you only get upto £3k if you lose your luggage, eveything else is upto to £300 per single item.

So:
Regs (1st stage, 2nd stage, octo, consol (possible computer and/or transimitter)) 1 item - £300 max
BCD/Wing - £300 max
Rebreather - £300 max!!
Those tasty Force Fins - £300 max (There about the only fins that you could lose on this!!)

If you can name items that need higher cover (like in home insurance) do it.

On that note are they covered by your home insurance - most likely yes - but watch the price of them, and again the cover away from home

Having a chat to the sales person and I think regs would be classed as a 'set' or 'pair'. Bascially he said that something is classed as this if the item cannot be used without its other parts. So the console isn't going to work without the 1st stage, same with octo etc, so at £500 its a little better but still low.

Just wondered if these low limits are normal?
