Talking Helping the RNLI

Hey Guys.

Me (Sven Evans), Chris Wood, Tom Hazel (all Manchester University Sab-Aqua Club) and Nick Wood (Liverpool University Sub-Aqua Club) are planning on doing the national 3 peak challenge on the 5th of June 2008.

The national 3 peaks challenge encompasses the highest peaks in England (Scafel Pike), Scotland (Ben Nevis) and Wales (Snowdon) with the aim being to climb all to their summits and descend again within 24 hours, including the time taken to travel between them.

We're not undertaking this mammoth task for fun, we're aiming to raise £1500 for the RNLI. As divers we never know when we may need to call upon these brave men to come help us out. In 2006 there was a total of 8,015 people rescued, thats 22 each day and each launch costs up to £5,800. It costs approximately £122.3 million to run the RNLI for a year.

The RNLI provides a 24-hour on-call service to cover search and rescue requirements up to 100 nautical miles off UK and ROI shore lines. There are over 330 lifeboats at over 230 lifeboat stations. They rely upon public donation to keep providing this excellent service thats why giving whatever you can will help.

We have set up a website so that it easy to donate, but if you would like to donate in person we also have sponsor forms. We meet with MUSAC on Tuesday evening in Scu Bar in Manchester, if you want to come join us feel free.

Please visit our website at Justgiving - Sven, Tom, Chris and Nick to donate. we'll hopefully have pictures of our training and the attempt itself, so keep going back to check our progress.

Many thanks,
Sven, Tom, Chris and Nick.

Hello Sven
Good Luck with your endeavors on completing the 3 peak challenge. As you are new members to the forum you are probably not aware of the various activities the YD members have done and to the charities we have fund raised for. Our last fund raising campaign which has only recently finished was for the RNLI whereby over £3500 was donated by YD'ers and monies have also been raised for the Chris Hall Fund.

For this years (April 2008 - March 2009) charity I understand that the YD members again voted to fund raise for the RNLI but this has not yet been clarified.

I am one of the people taking part in this along with my brother (also a member of YD). Just to reiterate Sven's post; The RNLI is a great charity which many of us here may directly benefit from at some point.

I am personally very grateful to the RNLI and hopefully our combined efforts will make a difference and assist them in their vital work.

Chris
