Being Slightly left of Center ...I was made up when the conservatives lost power..How 11 years Later Iam SO SO disappointed with What I have witnessed..The Blair,Prescott years ..It was like reading George Orwells Animal Farm ..Substitute Blair and Prescott For Snowball and Napolean ..Then The Shady way The Shyster Brown Got into Number10 ..Whom BTW Recently got Into Mugabe about elections ..At least Mugabe had an Election of Sorts when He Came to Power Which Is more that can be said for the Stealth taxing fraud Brown .

Brown Squirming on a visit To Afgahistan ..To see the troops ...Giving them a Shit job to Do with very little funding/equipment ..(He was at number 11 )
Should have hung his head in same over there

Prescott.. Bulimic ...Had a book to Sell ,They must think the General population are utter fools as any halfwit can see through them

Iam ashamed at the state of British Politics..Rant Over

Andy

Which is the disappointing thing.... unless you would be one of the 70%.

I view my right to vote as a way of having a tiny bit of influence over what happens. If I vote, i have the right to rant on about what the govt/council/europe are doing. If I don't vote, isn't it a bit hypocritical?

These days, more people vote against some people, than for. Tactical voting. Where i am, the house prices are as long as my phone number. Not surprisingly, it is tory. Looking at the numbers, Labout don't, and will never, stand a cat in hells chance. Those who would ordinarily vote Labour vote LibDem as a way of voting against the tories rather than for the party/person they want.

I know JasonP and his lack of sarcasm will be along in minute whingeing about the transport sysytem but can we have your point of view as to why its so bad??

as posted there have been decades of under investment on the london transport sytem . its going to take more than 10 years to put right. would anybody have fared any different no probably not.

the RMT and ASLEf are the biggest problem to be overcome- not your average honest hardworking member but your militant leadership-

for sensible reasons I will support them but because somebody gets disciplined over a incident that the unions think is victimisation then no no support.

Pay yes H&S yes silly stuff no.

Government - don't trust any of them.

Mayor (not 'mare') of London - Boris. At least I can listen to him.

I've had this discussion a lot, and my mates and I think that compulsory voting with a 'None of the above' clause is a great idea, coupled with a re-vote if the winning candidate gets less than x%.

That should put power in the hands of the people.

As for London mayor, it's a toughie.

Boris is a pillock, Ken is a Ken, and the other one is invisible.

I'd vote Boris for the comedy value alone.

You dont vote for a leader for comedy reasons? Thats insane!

The Mayor of London has immense power over the police and their policies, Ken has a very sensible approach and has demostrated his ability to be sensitive to Londoners needs as well as realistic about the state of the Judiciary.

Boris could be so dangerous, because he has no idea of balance or realism.

Perhaps I'm being afraid of things I dont know about, but where Boris is concerned I think thats a safe attitude.

Why is that disappointing? That's democracy. Putting in effort counts for nothing if people aren't interested in or disagree with what the other candidate has to say. The majority isn't always right but if you want democracy then you have to accept that the majority wins.

I see voting for someone that you (a hypothetical you, not you specifically) don't agree with just because you disagree with the other candidate more as hypocritical.

House price inflation happened unchecked and uncontrolled under Brown/Labour's watch so I find it hard to blame the Tories for that. It could have been controlled, the situation could have been avoided, it wasn't.

Tactical voting does no-one any good.

A compulsory vote is not a free vote and I'd have real concerns that privacy could be maintained either. I choose not to vote, that is not the same as not caring. I don't have any faith in any of the parties involved, I think the whole political process has discredited itself over the last ten years and I'm choosing to use my vote to say bollocks to the lot of you by not participating.

I was 19 when the first election I could participate in happened and I couldn't wait to cast my vote. Three prime ministers later and I couldn't care whether a syphillitic chicken was in No10 and if he'd got elected by a council of lesbian vicars.

I watched Paddick on the Question Time & Sky News debates, he must be one of the most characterless, ineffectual candidates for anything that's ever been put forward by any party. If the Liberals thought he was the best candidate then that's yet another reason why they should never get anywhere. Surely the Green Party candidate must stand more chance than him, why is he even being counted as the 3rd player?

A 'benign dictatorship' is the best system in terms of getting action without wasting time and money?

To be fair, the transport system is the biggest gripe going. Ken's policital meddling is all very well but I am sure that you will fine those paying the greatest amount to TfL are the commuters coming. Bendy bus?..Don't even start. The new emissions zone? Just north of me is Warlingham and just north of that is Greater London. When the zone is extended it will mean people like my next door neighbour will be unable to run us anywhere north in his small (non-business) flat bed. It also means no truck related favours for the school in Croydon at which he works. Only commercial business will be available.

On the plus side, there have been some plus sides. We have endless fun thanking our London resident colleagues for paying for the Olympics, and ribbing them about all the money they give away to corrupt causes.

Daniel
