The old "characters" were a hell of a lot more interesting, they may not be politically correct but great people. The current dive-god generation of vegetarians and tee-totallers may be very good divers but they really are dull. I have very happy memories of being at one founding member of IANTD's birthday party where he was trying to round up volunteers for a 1000ft chamber dive in his research chamber in the room next door whilst pouring a remarkable amount of alcohol down his neck.

| I think he combined the words "farm" "animal" and "stupid" into a descriptive little phrase although I don;t think he woiuld have claimed to have invented any of the individual words himself ... in today's politically correct world, phrases such as "sub-optimal" are preferred but similarly raise hackles. Captain Steve Bielenda, owner/skipper of the dive boat Wahoo out of New York which often went to the Andrea Doria was not, IIRC, one of GI3's best friends. But then, not many people were.
