It still is hassle getting Nitrox fills in Glasgow, I would use nitrox a lot more if it wasn't for that.

Because of the grief, one shop was on the cusp of refusing to give me clean air into a nitrox cylinder the other day, because they hadn't cleaned it (presumably they'd have put clean air into a non-nitrox cylinder), I simply dive with air in my twins and a rich deco mix.

I recently looked into a membrane compressor for home filling. The standard air compressor was about 1400 pounds, an identical compressor ,but with the membrane system added to give fills of up to 40% was 7000 pounds

So there you have it, for clubs with the right ethos and kit, everyone uses nitrox, most other people don't like the hassle of cylinder cleaning and, if you live in Glasgow, getting Nitrox is a never ending round of pain from the LDS.

What are the insurance issues for having a J cylinder of O2 stored in commercial premises? It can't be as bad as an Oxy-acetylene welding rig I wouldn't have thought. Anyone know?

I tend to dive nitrox of varying percentages for most of my dives now, our club is moving toward more nitrox diving and I think the new OD SD nitrox cert' has helped with that.

If shops refuse to do nitrox fills with our current valves after August then we'll be garage blending.

Safe diving,
Steve

i think the last time i used strate air on a dive was about 4 years ago!

always dive with nitrox regardless of depth !

32% unless depth dictates a leaner mix!

I can feel a poll comming on.

I paid for my nitrox course (TDI basic). Went through a phase of using nothing but nitrox but after a while went back to air due to not knowing what i was diving (so not knowing the mix) and seeing no benefit what so ever after a dive. I still have to stop for a nap on the drive home no matter what im diving on.

Im out of my Nitrox "phase" and now only do it on the very rare times i end up on a charter with a known site in advance.

The reason i did the nitrox and paid was due to a trip to the US where some of the wrecks were in the 30m range but no deco allowed so wanted to maximise my bottom time there.

in my (old) club, i was the only one to use nitrox on the very few dives they did.

since buying my own nitrox factory (rebreather) i decided to leave the club and find one that actually dives

local shore dives on air as it's onlt 8m deep.

shore and boat dioves in red sea, Nx subjet to depth. Sometimes air + Nx.

Hols, NX whenever available. Not so much to extend NDL of individual dives, but more to reduce the cumulative effect of several days repetitive diving.

I breath nitrox on most of my dives (depth permitting). We continuously blend using a nitrox stick in the club so can produce anything from 21% to 40% quickly and easily.

Britain is certainly behind a lot of the world in the use of Nitrox because diving businesses in the UK cannot afford the captital investment to install denitrogenising equipment. Making Nitrox by mixing O2 and air is both time consuming and hazardous with implications regarding the storage of large amounts of O2.

As for its use - Nitrox is for old divers who want to get older!

I'm generally on Nitrox for most dives, optimum mix for MOD.

Unless in a shallow puddle and then I'll just dive air (or an air top on whatever's left in my tanks)
