| well a bit of local knowledge... RAF squadron 617 up here at lossiemouth has a plaque outside eng ops building as a burial marker for 'Nigger' the dog. It was one of the questions in a charity treasure hunt based on camp and the local area where the other half works.

| If you want to honour the damnbusters, why not call him Gibson? I am sure if GG's dog was called Tinkerbell you wouldn't be copying him, so I suspect that, knowing you, there is a little bit of "naughtyness" behind the suggestion. Personally no, I wouldn't as I would not like to cause unwarranted offence to anyone.

I'm sure the black people of Darfur and Zimbabwe were very relieved that the UN were so busy over this issue and very understanding that this matter had to be dealt with before that august body worried about their piffling problems..

That's strange, because AFAIK the dog was buried at RAF Scampton, where Operation Chastise took off from. The dog was killed in the afternoon before the raid and Gibson instructed a LAC to construct a coffin. The LAC refused and Gibson stormed off, only just being pesuaded not to put the man on a charge.

| you could always call the dog adolf! ![]() |

| For the reasosn Darren A put and Neil in 100 more words, you can't really call your dog that. Even if it's for the right reasons I'm not sure the police wouldn't misconstrue it as racist. If I ever had a huge dog like that I'd call it Cujo. Yes, the book's about a family dog that became rabid, but it was written from the human perspective and also the dogs perspective and he didn't mean to hurt his owners! I just think Cujo is a great name! The other option is "Tank". I dog walk with a guy who's got a French Mastiff and it's called "Tank". Very befitting for an 11 stone dog!! Especially when he's coming full pelt at you to say hello! He sure hits you like a Sherman - and there's another choice name! "Sherman" cos he's built like a tank! Well Newfs are BIG!!!!
