P&P costs on dive goods

I placed an order with a reputable UK company for dive material. Upon ordering the estimate for P&P was £34.90. OK it was a lot but I got the package today to see the actual cost was £16.15. Is it me or the £18.75 surcharge for packaging is a bit of exageration?

Upon ordering it said it was an estimate but nevertheless that was the value debited.

I feel quite annoyed about this, am I being stupid or is this a way off?

I emailed them back with my concerns and will see what the reply will be.

I know with ebay it's a well known practice to make their money but I wasn't expecting this with a well know store. The sad bit, is that with practices like this I would avoid a repeat order. A quick buck made but no return business...

I wouldn't have been happy although I'd have probably questioned the estimate before placing the order to get a confirmed price.

How much did you spend?

I spent £268.80. Bear in mind it is european postage. When the price I was given it I trusted that would the approximate amount. I suppose in future I will question them, but really how often does one question the postage costs beforehand?

I know a few dive shops who do this kind of thing. I ordered something that weighed next to nothing - postage was £5. The actual postage put on the packet was £1. Not a bad mark-up really.

So, I just don't order from those dive shops. I order from ones with sensible shipping prices.

I have since received a prompt apology and given a credit note. The cost was placed at £18 wich is a relalistic amount. It was admited the inital charge was excessive. A credit not has been given.

After the explanation yes I will shop with them again although the other items they have a really expensive

The point of the post is not so much going on about this particular case bt in many cases the p&p can be really excesive and is worth infomring the store when it happens. I don't believe this store in particular purposely went out to make out the buck but overestimated the postage costs initially.

I charge excessive P&P all the time

what I didnt say was when I priced the YD Tshirts at £16 inc P&P, it was £1 for the Tshirt and £15 P&P
