I think Northlink Ferries in Aberdeen is your best bet too. Relax in the bar on the ferry overnight

Just under 4 hour drive from Seahouses (sorry not been further south on A1 than that). Very easy drive - does not feel like it takes long.

Heading north around Edinburgh follow signs for Forth Road Bridge. On way back follow signs for A720 City Bypass SOUTH. Its straightforward for rest of the way. Except a left you need to make in Dundee.

Oops you've left already.

"Photographic ID" - your driving license will do.

Any advice on the quickest way to Scapa via South Tyneside and the A1? I will be navagator on the journey*.

Cheers.

Get a satnav? I would, my navigation is rubbish above and below the water i wouldnt attempt to go anywhere far without one. Hey i wonder if you can get diving GPS? You'd never get lost again. That'd be cool if you could 3D cad map wrecks, to help people get out if they got lost?

Sorry major tangents going on there - my 2p take a tom tom
