Is swimming around under water enough?.

Hi.

Is being underwater enough?.

I have been going through in my mind about the number of divers that I have known, trained, over the years maybe hundreds.

But the number of divers that I no who have stuck at it and dived for a lot of years, well there are a precious few.

Now, the divers who are still at it are in the same groove as me, dive wrecks, take trophy's, pick up crunchie fish for the pot.

The divers who look and don't touch and take only memory's, look at fish and seaweed, well there are none that do it for more than a few years, except maybe some that are involved in marine conservation or stuff like that.

OK there will be the exceptions among you lot, but there are none that I personally no!.

Are there only old pirates that dive like me that have the legs to go on diving?, are the guys out there who have dived a long time, of the same mind set as me?.

Yes. Swimming around underwater is enough

There is always a new challenge, something to see I haven't seen before, somewhere new to dive. Plus just getting out on the water, getting into the water and getting home again is a buzz.

Not been doing it for ages and ages, but it has done me for 8 years like that.

I've been diving for 20 years and still get a kick out of simply being underwater - whether it's a wreck at 60m, an inland muddy puddle or an idyllic Pacific island. I started at Plymouth Poly in the 80's and as far as I know I am the last of the 30 that I trained with still actively diving (correct me if I'm wrong and get in touch!!).

being underwater is more than enough... you never know what could happen... even in quarries you could find something realy odd... i once found a cylinder boot under the 3 meter platform in capers .... if its anyones and they're wondering were it is... ive got it

I came into diving from archaeology.

There is so much stuff to investigate and record that pointless diving is just pointless.

On my list of inshore wrecks out of Brighton a full one third are just called Unknown and a number.

Yes! Someone once said that if a skip was full of water, I'd dive it. That is still true, but the effort/expense that I put into a dive is now related to how much I'll get out of it.

Travelling half way across the country to do a UK shore dive is now not something I'm prepared to do. Travelling for an hour or two to do a shore dive or travelling a long way to do a nice wreck is still on though.
