| The hydrobox was dragged up to the 20m level a little while ago IIRC. Somewhere near to dropoff along the road by the engine parts. Guildenburgh's loos are pretty naff. When I used to go the only loo they had was the one you can get to from both the bar and the outside. Now at least they have the loos in the changing portacabin, but thats pretty grim too. Mind you they have been trying to sell the site for ages, so they weren't going to put any money in. If, as I've heard it has finally been sold then maybe something might happen there.

| Changing facilities My experience of Stoney Cove changing rooms and loos are that they are always clean at the start of the day. Always plenty of loo roll. The changing facilities could do with expansion, but the quality I have always found to be OK. I was at Gildy yesterday. My drysuit picked up more mud from the floor of the changing room than when looking after the Ocean Diver trainee. I have complained in the past to the staff, but there is little to gain from this. |

| The changing facilities aren't that bad and compared to Capernwray, Blue Lagoon and Dosthill are much bigger and they have the working showers. Not sure what the shit pits are like as my bowels are fine and I can normally manage a few hours without needing to shit It could do with a revamp though, they can't claim to be the best inland site and have substandard facilities and although they are smaller, Capers does have 2 changing rooms/toilets which are both in better nick. And as Ratty said, they would benefit form another toilet block up top near the shop. They've done a good job with the shop, now if they put half the effort into the "facilities" it will be a much more pleasant place. The paid for parking is brilliant, if you value your sleep it allows you to dive on your own schedule rather than having to be up in the middle of the night, missing out on sleep leaving you tired and likely to make mistakes. If you do like getting up two hours before you go to bed (I'm looking at you BUDDAH Arfie

| Personally I think given the money that Stoney makes the place needs a major kick up the arse in terms of development. The toilet and shower block needs redoing completely. They need to put some new stuff in the water as well. lets face it the place is pretty large and it does not have that much below the surface of any interest once you have been there a few times. Maybe some floating jetty's out to the far corners would be useful to allow people to use that area more. I think once chepstow gets the hotel on site built, Stoney is in for a big surprise as people will venture that bit further for better facilities, plus you will be able to stay on site as well and make a weekend of it. As for the Wraysbury comment earlier in this thread I find Wraysbury is only any good of a week day and everything Wraysbury try and do they try to do on the cheap. Take the 20m pit which was supposed to be concrete lined and iluminated, because it was done on the cheap the pit was never lined, it has collapsed in on itself and is now a dangerous area. I just wish the owner would really put some money into Wraysbury and make it realise some of its potential. Last edited by hammerheads : 02-06-08 at 11:00 AM. |

I don't get your point about Stoney. There is so much demand there, especially from Training Schools, that, being in business as they are, to make profit, why would they want to raise their costs? As a training site I really don't think it can be bettered in the water, the huge 6m platform area, even in poor vis is never really that bad. They have introduced schemes which make it even better for training schools which I think shows their intentions. So for the rest of that go there to practice stuff, yes it'd be nice but I don't think there is a compulsion on them to provide much else. Janoos described it perfectly .... he would raise the prices until the demand just tailed off and then sit back and enjoy the fat profits he'd make. Mal P.S. It was up for sale ..... if I won the lottery I might buy it and employ Janoos as MD |

| Im not saying they should raise their costs at all what Im saying is that the toilet block needs a major overhaul if not rebuilding with facilities that are clean, smell nice and above all function properly. Considering the money that Stoney makes is it therefore too much to ask for some of the profits to be reinvested into a decent khazi facility. As for underwater attractions its my personal opinion that a few new attractions would not go amiss. Last edited by hammerheads : 02-06-08 at 11:28 AM. |
