Hmm... well I don't know what we was diving on but it was buoyed and it was a metal box with a hole in the top. Top was at about 31m and 36m at the bottom of it....

It's not that long ago that there was no soap for washing hands in the gents on a worrying note I agree with Mal they don't have to do anything, and I'm sure won't do anything to incurr more costs while they have people turning up in droves as they do.

Safe diving,
Steve

P.S Yas there are 2 hydroboxes one at 22ish and the other buoyed at 36m

With the amount of space behind the toilet block/to the side they could build another 3 floor building - toilets/revamped changing rooms ground floor & B&B on 2/3 floor.

They did back in March - they "rolled" some MGB's in the other side of the pit! Some more stuff past the Sterngarth/Bus would be nice and might encourage more people to venture that way.

Yes but if you speak to any of the management the place does not make any money (apparently). I looked at the accounts (pulled from companies house) last year of Gildy, Stoney & Capers as part of the accounting module of my CPD course. All 3 make money - just depends on how you cut the cake with salaries & dividends/tax write offs. Certainly the school is constantly told it loses money.

We (the royal we) all keep going there, week after week, month after month, year after year. I nipped down to pick up an EFR manual on Sunday and the place was rammed.

Youll know then that its not uncommon then for a business to have more than one set of accounts!.

There is no way Stoney is being run for the love of diving, neither is any dive school or site for that matter. If it was true as everyone keeps saying that there is no money in diving, dive sites would not exist, neither would dive schools, who runs a business to constantly lose money, no one would in their right mind. I grant anyone that one aspect of a dive centre may lose money ie the retail side aginst the training etc but overall they make a profit and its more than people are led to believe.

Some one said Stoney is good for training but ask yourself how good an advert is it for student divers new to diving at Stoney for the first time to experience the toilet block at its worst of a weekend. It would hardly endear anyone to UK Diving at Inland Sites would it.

Mind you, compared with Dosthill, the facilities are 5* (although Dosthills admission price reflects the quality of its facilities )

Having recently moved up to the west coast of scotland however, Loch Long, 20 minutes down the road will do nicely. Toilets are poor, locals tend to bite (midges), but admission price is good value (free).
