Sharing a room with a member of the opposite sex, platonically?

Did you know I was off to the Farnes tomorrow?



Anyway, Will, my buddy, and I have been platonic friends since 2005. We stay at each other's houses, go out for dinner occasionally, go on day trips, dive trips etc. There's never been anything going on, nor will there ever. We're friends and that's it.

We're sharing a room on the Farnes trip for the first time. It didn't occur to me to think twice about this and I don't have a problem with it at all. However a few of my mates have "questioned" this and are convinced there's more to it.

Like the film, When Harry Met Sally, is it possible for men and women to be platonic friends deep down, or is there always an underlying sexual tension? I truly believe that it is, and in the diving fraternity I see everyone as divers, not really thinking about the fact that some are male and some are female.

I know there are others who also "share" with their buddy of an opposite sex without anything happening (and I'm sure there's some that things DO happen - lucky barstewards!!!), however, WOULD YOU??? More importantly, COULD you and still refrain?!!?

No poll, or hinting for gossip, just curious, and wondered if I was as naive as some are suggesting???

This thread could reduce into a Friday night thread, but, just in case you didn't know, I won't be on line this weekend cos I'm going to the Farnes!?!? Bet you didn't know that, did you!?!?

yes they can be platonic, just ask my mate Scott

he lived with his then GF, bought a house together and everything

decided they both had had enough of the relationship 3 years later

he moved into the spare room

they both contnued to live in the same house, each then finding new partners (bringing them back, stopping over, etc)

his ex then got pregnant by new bloke, still lived in same house

baby born, my mate babysat whilst she went out with new BF

she finally moved out and is now living with new BF

my mate still goes round to his ex GF to babysit

now thats weird

FFS don't try justifying to us lot, just jump him the first night and get it over with, the worst that can happen is you wake up in the morning and feel a bit guilty but then have one for the road anyway.

on a serious note, there is always an undercurrent of sexual tension if you haven't slept with them and are trying to be friends. Its not part of our nature to be friends with the opposite sex, its in our very basic make up to have sex to produce off spring.

He's a YDer! He doesn't post, but does read the threads! Think I need to phone him to warn him I'm being told to jump his bones!!!!

I truly believe there is none between us (sexual tension that is) and he said that's one thing he loves about our friendship! We'll have a giggle about this tomorrow night after dinner and a glass of wine! Hope he's got a laptop!!!
