I used to believe it was a reaction, but now I am convinced it is abrasion. The change to neoprene would solve this as the edge is now 'soft' not sharp, but it isn't for everyone.
I must admit I did wonder why my cuff seals didn't bother me and I still dive latex cuffs without a problem but what do I care about the cause, I switched to neo neck seal and my problem went away so I'm a happy bunny

I use E45 cream after a neck seal burn but not before a dive, worried it might damage the latex?
How come I sometimes get it bad and sometimes not atall?
Is a neoprene neck seal really more comfortable? are they any warmer?

If you can't get on with a traditional neoprene neck seal, consider a glide skin seal from Typhoon, less than half the thickness of a neoprene and no need to fold it in on itself

I use this stuff and it works very well.

Another vote for Neo neck seals. I would get hangmans neck after one day on a boat with latex, changed to neo and not a mark after a weeks livaboard in Oban. Have had no issues re leakage. I think my head neck ratio is of fairly average proportions, or if anything neck a tad on the skinny side, and whilst it can be a bit of a squeeze getting the seal over my head, its very comfy when on and am happy to keep my drysuit on all day, Couldn't wait to get the suit off with latex neck as each turn of the head removed another layer of skin. Very happy with latex for wrist seals mind.

Go Neo! You know it makes sense.

Ralph

Try not to shave to close I find after a full close wetshave the neckseal always leaves a mark ,and as we are all "new men " moisturise this stops any puffing of the skin ,and how much stick will that comment generate.

I switched to a neoprene neck seal after years of latex & wouldn't swap back.
Warm, comfy and dry. Thoroughly recommend it.
