Also there will be a few JAOW - JR divers 12-15 years old.

I thought of JOW but I very much doubt there is any wrecks at less than 12m.

Is this sort of thing resticted to shore dives or are there any charters that have a few shallow but interesting wrecks at these depths.

I know this may be a tall order, but...

Also it may be for a long weekend/week break that further afield could be contemplated.
from Dartford your driving anyway thought about westwales and some very nice shore dives, selsey life boat station is another option good shallow dive, that and the mullberries would fill the day.

thinking about a safe max depth not a good plan to put kids in to deep water and say stay shallow :-)

Good one... also there is the lifeboat pier at Selsey for a shore dive... 8m max. Plenty of life... In fact try Mulberry divers, they run a shuttle to the Mullberrys, and know alot about timings etc for the Lifeboat...

Mulberry Divers<"National Geographic Diving PADI West Sussex">

Wittering Divers are/were (its been a few years since I dived with them) very good.

True thats Why I'm looking of dives that the seabed is 12m (ish) for JOW or 20m for JAOW.
That way when they crash into the sand (plan for it as it will probably happen) they dont exceed there depths.

Why not contact Paul Oliver? He and Dave Bachelor will know every 'shallow' wreck on the Folkestone/Dover area and Neptune is an excellent boat. He takes the Dude and Chasey out, ergo child-friendly..........

which went through my mind when the Scylla and JEL were mentioned. Mine was pretty good in blue water at maintaining a good depth - one of his qualifying dives had a part of it on a 20m wall (thank goodness I didn't see that!) but he was excellent.

I had plans to get him under swanage pier once the water is warm enough, providing we had a reasonable period of settled weather and the spies in the camp could see what the viz was like. I don't much want to put him off UK diving.

(hence he hasn't been in Wraysbury either!!)

And if he wants to do fundies, he can wait until he can fund it himself!

Portland might be too far for you to travel but if not the harbour is a relatively tide free environment. Try Fathom & Blues and see about having a rhib to yourself. You can then decide location for each dive.

Mine is 12 and is currently JOW (and i have subjected him to Wraysbury at night!! the pike was bigger than him)

Other are 13 (currently JOW but doing his JAOW)
and two more 14/15 JRD

There the ones I know are qualified. Varying strengths and control.

I can highly recommend both the above, I have been in exactly your situation as my daughter, her friend and my normal buddy's daughter have learnt to dive and been gradually increasing their experience.

Linda and Steve at Mulberry Divers would be very useful for advise and help, their shop is very close to the Lifeboat Station and there's a great pub just round the corner for lunch/SI. They also run a rib out to a number of shallow sites including the Mulberry Harbour.

Wittering run ribs in the area too, the Fossil Beds are a good early drift dive across an area when the youngsters can rummage for fossilised sharks teeth.

Good luck with the planning, let us know what you're up to and if you want some advice/help or bigger group let us know as we're looking at a day in Selsey soon.
