Found: Weightbelt, Wreck of James Fennel, 20/07/2008

Anyone lost a weightbelt on the James Fennel, off Portland? It was found near her boiler and dosn't look like it has been in the water long - no marine growth at all on it.

If you want it back it's now in Liverpool.

I'll send a form to the Receiver of Wreck (they did say they wanted to know about everything ) but I don't think they'll be very interested. If noone claims it goes to my club.

Surely item found tha are clearly not part of the wreck do not need to be reported to the receiver. Or do they?

All property found at sea is 'wreck', isn't it?

Diving kit has been returned to rightful owners via the ROW before. If anyone's reported an unpleasant ascent from that wreck following the loss of a weightbelt to Portland Coastguard recently, it might find its way home.

Of course they'll just tell me to keep it and go away. It's not exactly a VR3 or an Evolution I've found.

Although to be fair you did look for The Duck's VR3 on the M2 yesterday!
(nice to meet you by the way)

Ahh - so it is you! I didn't put two and two together until the trip home last night. Good to meet you and thank you for everything yesterday.

A VR3 would have been a bit easier to drag around than a weightbelt hanging off my SMB reel (Kent Tooling's finest of course ) , but I was determined it was coming up. Cutlass did far better on Saturday - she brought a kayak and two paddlers home!

The Receiver of Wreck tried to offer Her a dead whale a few years ago without success. Wonder if She wants a weightbelt instead.

as 'Fishes Royal'- maybe Edward II was unaware that whales are mammals
