The only reason I even mooted it was because there *isn't* anywhere round here. The local LDS is in the centre of York and they don't do fills, so I think I'm destined to be stuffed

or at least buy myself a simple compressor for personal use.

Mark.

Slightly off subject, but has anyone ever tried using a hand booster ? I have seen them, but never used one, or have the faintest idea where to look for one.

My local dive shop went into recievership on Monday (suprising considering how much I have spent there in the last 12 months) so O2 fills are going to be in short supply.

I was thinking about getting a ally 12 filled with 100% O2 and then decanting this off, but want to get at least 200bar at the other end. Haskel pumps seem a bit on the pricey side.

Cheers,

John

Now you are talking. That is the way to go

Sadly I don't think Kevin Costner was referring to a compressor station when he said "if you build it, they will come"

Regards

try Russia

to be honest you could get O2 cheaper by getting it fom BOC or AP etc by the J full around £20 for the O2 and 20p a day rental or you can get cheap O2 but I won't open that can of worms

or from canada

200 bar fills I doubt it will pay for its self though

A serious suggestion.

Mark I have an idea for you. Oddly for me its a serious point.

Why don't you start a club?

You can if you fancy start a BSAC branch, but that's all sorts of probs. (Maybe one near you with a comp?)

However, if you and some friends were to start an "air club" you could get a single phase compressor between you. Issue shares - just like a company - and members can sell their share if they leave or transfer them.

Its not as hard as you might think.

If you are all mates its quite easy. But its not such an undertaking even if you are strangers.

Post an ad here on YD and maybe in the local paper.

If you can get 10+ or even fewer is you have the odd techie it would work. O2 and H can be bought from BOC/Air Liquide if you have the need/blenders.

Tread with care of course but I think it might fly if it really is that hard to get a blow job er.. fill in your neck of the woods.

Chris

Plan B (cause plan A doesn't sound too good for you health).

We have a portable in the club that goes away with us for trips. We frequently loiter in lay-bys at the side of the road, admittedly not the perfect answer but out in the fresh air, and not annoying the neighbours (well not YOUR neighbours). Added bonus of no CO poisoning

Hi Mark

Just before I read Chrisch's post I had thought - are there any BSAC, SAA or other clubs near you that you could join that might have a compressor that you could use? Or as he suggests, get a group of people together to do it between you.

Luckily we fill up at EDC in Edinburgh, and we can get air fills overnight sometimes from Gary in North Berwick if we're diving Saturday and Sunday with him. One couple in our club have a portable compressor that they take away at weekends, but apparently they spend all night filling cylinders for everybody else as it's very very slow.

I know you're near York - is Leeds worth the trip for air?? Or is it too far? (is there somewhere in Leeds to get air - I know there are some dive clubs in Leeds - wonder where they get their air?)

Good luck in your quest for air.

there's an air link too but it might be out of date.
