According to the back of my card BSAC Diveleader is CMAS ** which is the same as a BSAC Sports diver????????

So how does that work consider the extra training and 50m depth limit I get as a DL whereas Sports Diver is limited to 35m, as usual Europe havent got a clue what they are doing so make it up as they go along.........
Just as I was getting used to yesterday along came today

    That's about it.
There is no way to say if you are Nitrox certified, Deep diver etc.
Do you think anybody, other than us badge collectors, cares?
Really it all sums up as:
    Needs looking after,
    Can look after themselves,
    Can look after others.

I assume this is the result of a ten year study and is now several years into an unstopable multi-million euro card issuing feeding frenzy. If we're lucky the authorities here, who seem to have learnt a lot from the French, will say all the right things in Brussels and ignore it at home.

dive leader gives you planning and rescue skills rather than in water skills. the in water stuff is building on previously learnt skills CBL AAS AVtow ( or whatever we have to call em this year )

for many the depth is the only reason they do DL rather than for the reasons DL "should " be done.

I was in the first camp until a few months ago thern i realised its not about depth at all.

For any of these croos agency things, you need to meet all of the standards for the level and not some of them, so....

    Sports diver is CMAS 2*

    Dive leader

    Advance diver is CMAS 3*

Your in the middle but a dive leader may not have covered all of the mandatory stuff for CMAS 3*.

Every agency of common agency sets their requirements for each level and they all have diffrent priorities. Thats why you can be TDI mod 3 (100m) and sports diver (35m).

Sorry what was the point of this card in a country that does not require any qualifications to go diving or to get air.

Usually with something like this there is legislation that dictates that with the card you can do something. (and without it you cant) I am not sure what that is.

But surely if the planning and rescue skills are "the" most important thing about the DL card then that should be recognised as a Higher level on the CMAS ranking system

They obviously think those skills are more important as they put Divemaster as a higher level.

I know what you are saying but tbh the only reason I did my DL is because I want to do my OWI course not for the depth increase but thats looking less and less likely as BSAC dont run any courses nearby to make it economically viable to do it.
