You will love this: Common European Diving Card, mine arrived today

You are excused if you choked on your sandwich, drink etch. let me explain:

I live in a beaurocratic country, not as bad as France though and this year all divers in Portugal had to apply for the national diving card. So I filled out a couple of forms, sent €10 and 2 weeks later received them in the post.

I thought it was a national job, but as it turns out it is a EU requirement and is slowly being adapted by each country.

The objective of this card is to have a standard level in between all the different teaching identities, i.e PADI, BSAC vrs CMAS etch..

    This how the equivalency works:

CMAS - PADI - European Norm
CMAS DP (Débutant plongeur) - Scuba Diver - NP EN 14153-1
    Plongeur P1 CMAS P1 - Open Water - NP EN 14153-2
    Plongeur P2 CMAS P2
    Plongeur P3 CAMS P3 - Divemaster - NP EN 14153-3
    - Assistant Instructor Level 1 - NP EN 14413-1
Moniteurs Niveaux M1 - OW Scuba Instructor - NP EN 14413-2
    Moniteurs Niveaux M2

At the moment the only information of the european standard I can find on the web is in Portuguese, Polish or French. I try to find more info in the meanwhile.

Maybe I should have posted this Friday for the Friday ruck, oh well... enjoy...

I've got a copy of the standards knocking about here.

    Level 1: supervised diver
    Level 2: autonomous diver
    Level 3: dive leader

Level 1 instructor: equivalent to a BSAC assistant instructor (can teach in confined water to any level or under direct supervision by a level 2 instructor in open water)
Level 2: equivalent to a BSAC OWI (can teach anything anywhere, just about, and supervise level 1 instructors)

There's also 14467 for scuba diving providers which should shit a few shops up. Mind you the frogs have a load of exceptions in Annex A. Typical.

    Question

So are they going to insist that you have this card to dive within the EU, i.e. dive shops won't fill your cylinders unless you show proof etc....

    More Beurocratic nonsense.

    Yay!!!
I'll scan the card later an show it. The way I foresee this is that there is a uniform standard between training agencies. You show this card to a dive school, for me for example it says I can dive to the european norm NP14153-2.

Now I am a PADI Recue Diver, but according to this card it is the same level as Adanced or Open Water in Padi equivalents or CMAS 1 or CMAS 2.

There is no way to say if you are Nitrox certified, Deep diver etch.

We may laugh at this but there are countless of agencies where you may not know the equivalent. If someone went to the UK with A FPAS PN1 card what would a normal dive center do?

    In short the norms say:
    • Diver who can dive but under supervision
      *Autonomous diver
      *Instructor
    2010 dives: 1
    Kg lost since 1.1.2010 (93.5kg) : -0.9 kg
