[QUOTE=Mark Chase;1231282]? a bit of a silly statement you can always get away from OC divers even on a small wreck.

Have you heard the noise made by all those OC divers?

    Cost, convenience and safety

You can't put a price on safety.

My mother shouldent drive a car but if my mother was Teresa Tulis then sure why not.

Alas, there are more divers like your mother than TT.

If the logic were based in this way we wouldent dive at all. Is the fun of a dive worth my life? What about Moterbikes? or Sex?

If you are going to include sex, there is no contest!

Id dive more rebreather dives and own a Ducati if i had more money. If I had a lot more id probably get a lot more sex too.

Is that why the sons of rich people so often die young?

I regularly contribute to Diver, DYK (Sweden & Denmark), Undercurrent and other diving magazines but my views expressed here are independent.

Likewise. The Duck and I can do a direct comparison during our upcoming week in the Shetlands - anyone want to bet that mine will be significantly less?

A single fill of lime costs £9.00 officialy it will do four hours underwater in my unit unoficialy I do about six if shalow diving. You can oficialy do six hours by changing a half fill. So 4.50 does three hours

Asuming cells cost £150 a year and you do 100 dives then its £1.50 per dive on cells

I do about £15 in batteries a year.

I have no other running costs.

Your £60 nitrox bill gave you how many dives? and how many hours under water?

But lets face in on a ECCR its a no brainer

Just folow the instructions on the wrist unit and breath.

OC thres all that gas switching and confirming gas switching on the computer. On CCR thers nothing. Just go up when the unit tells you to and you will be fine. Asuming it auto gas switches to high set point at 30m and to low set point at 5m.

The OPV on the counterlungs will take care of ascent expansion.

Asuming a shot line ascent I am strugling to see why its going to be hard?

I wish that I was Mark

What I meant was I am unlikely to be in a position where using 12s would be less cost effective than a breather due to my ammount of diving.

I also still dive with in nitrox depths.

You might not think it now but AndyP had to nag me for the best part of two years before i agreed to go CCR.

I was getting cheep garage fills and only doing 15-20mix dives a year.

Then garage fill man stoped doing twin sets and suddnly the reality of running about like an idiot and paying for shop fills became aparent and I put my money down so fast on a CCR it was a blur

I couldent go back to the bad old days of shop fills now.

I've got one of thoses nagging breather mates as well

Nice Inspo on here for sale at the minute....................................

In all seriousness, I would love a CCR but in reality just don't dive enough to become 'fluid' with one.

I was diving the other week 45m, there were a boat load of us and two mates on CCRs. I followed these two down the shot, they were both kneeling on the bottom - one playing with his set up (he don't dive much) I swam off for a bit did my dive and on the way back found these two still on the bottom messing about!

I have to say I could see myself being the one messing about as I wouldn't be able to put in the required time to be 100% competent. (I spoke to the bloke messing back on the boat and he was going on about tying to sort something or other out)

If I could afford to buy one, it would mean i'd have the time to do the dives to justify one - so yes

There are things i would love to dive but can't/wont because there just that bit too deep for Air 50/60m range

i can't justify/afford the trimix, training or time to be suitably safe i'd want to dive those profiles - but if i could i'd jump to a rebreather.

    can't see it happening
